Default My R10 has race heritage

I just came across a photo on Facebook that shows A R10 round eye racing around a track (unknown?).
I didn't know that my recent acquisition had some race heritage (I don't mean the actual car).
Cool car and planning to do a few little mods to get some get-up-and-go in the near future!

I didn’t know round eye’s raced either, but someone recently posted a similar pic on Facebook of what looked like Bathurst with a round eye and an R8 in the same shot if I’m not mistaken - RCCA Facebook page, or maybe Dave’s French connection page.

Edit, I take it back. It’s the same pic off Dave’s site and not Bathurst as they don’t have class letters on the cars in that pic - others he posted do.

I like the back of the round eye model. Cool tail lights

Edit. How cool is this model I stumbled over

Yes they were posted by one of the PCCV members. Don't know where he got them from.

Not Sandown, but I would say coming over the dam at the back of the pits Warwick Farm, the entry to turn 12 before the run to Polo corner. I used to watch a lot of races from that spot on the opposite side of the pits from the start finish line. Not certain as i can't recall a 10 running there. I had a big lose on the exit of 12 when a right rear tyre ran out of grip on the canvas. Received a small dent on the door from a star peg on the edge of the track - no runoff areas in those days.

That could make sense Bustamif, as I was going to say it might be WF based on the fact that the only car with numberplates (R8 in the background) looks to have a light-coloured plate. Back then the only state I am aware of with yellow or white plates were NSW and SA. What colour would WA, ACT and TAS have had back in the 60's? I know WA had a yellow plate at some stage, but not sure about the 60's.

WA still had yellow plates in 1989 when we moved over, so it is on those 1989 plates still. However, back in the 1960s, AFAIK, they were white with black letters. I'm not sure when they changed to yellow - great safety from yellow reflective plates I reckon. My R10 has race heritage-r8-shed-2.jpg

I bought an R8 once mostly for the plates, which are now on the blue 4CV..... Sad case of course.

The track is Warwick Farm for sure as the Hillman in front was run by Nick Ledingham who later won the Renault New Star series for R12's. I worked with Nick who raced in Formula Renault in Europe as part of the prize for winning the R12 series.

The R10 round eye is likely to be the Rob and Ross Edgerton car which appears in the results for Bathurst 1969. Nick ran the Hillman in the 1969 Bathurst so I would guess its that time period.

Victorian plates were white on Black until mid 70ís

You can still get old plates reissued if number not in use. I managed to bag the originals for Reg ( Ď60 4cv )

At the moment the plates are looking better than the car, but progress is being made

    Regards

Thinking about it, based on the initial poster's criteria, and from an angle of cars in Australia in the 1960's, there wouldn't be many saloon/sports type models without competition heritage.........

A Rambler American pops into my head at the moment. Otherwise a majority of cars and models from Alfa to Zeta were used in Australian competition.

    Could it be Winton?

My initial thought was Winton but there was never stuff growing near the edge of the track. Although the spectators cars along the fence and even the two gum trees could be right. But then I was last there in 1964 so memory might not be that good.

It is not Winton, it is, without any doubt, Warwick Farm. See my other posts below

In the early to mid 60's ACT plates were dark blue with white numbering (numbers only - no letters). In 1968 they introduced Y series plates - white background with bright blue numbers and letters. The dark blue plates were then phased out.
