    Default Scenic RX4 leaking

    Hey guys,

I have an RX4 parked in Southern TAS, and since the huge amount of rain that hit last week, I noticed 5cm of water pooled in the passenger footwell.

I have heard of this on the forum before, but it's only a veige memory of something being blocked, or something?

I did a bit of a search on here to no avail, anyone know if this sounds like a known fault / problem and a fix?

    Thanks!

    David.

    Easy Fix

One : Renault Scenic - Problems, Faults, Troubleshooting

Two : Drill 12mm hole in footwell. Jeeps use this method

Yeah just remove those rubber plugs alltogether. I removed mine about 10 years ago and havn't had my passenger footwell fill up since. There real problem is that the trapped excess water can then overflow on top of the engine and water makes its way down the ignition coil holes. If you'r car starts misfiring soon you'll know thats happened and you'll need to take the coils out and dry down the entry point with compressed air. Apart from this issue my Scenic RX4 has been going strong for 17+ years now.

    Thanks guys,

Incidentally, the RX4 reminds me a LOT of an R16 to drive.

    Hey Vivid.

That's only part of the issue.

Remove the plastic cowl below the wiper arms and get access to the chamber below the wipers and you'll see there are 2 rubber flaps at each end of the plenum. These act as a drain for that area and I found years ago on my Rx4, after a dry spell they'd become clogged shut by dust and leaves and trapped water in the plenum and, well, you know the results of that, as well as water into the spark plug chambers if very unlucky.

    Cheers
