Where's Simon when you need him! Pity you can't tag users on AF like you can on Facebook.
Ah, so it was neither of the Perth cars he had back then. Do you know of ANY stepped roof R1130s? I haven't seen one since 1972.

I can't recall the details of the modified green car being disclosed - although requested. Though I can understand people being careful with chassis numbers. The oval plate is different though, it is hard on the early cars to engineer back to a diamond plate number.

Although it was certainly an early R8, with the step-roof, as the trim for the step was missing.

Not in 1963 from the factory, unless you bought it later on when the engine had been changed by either a later owner, or a dealer as part of a warranty claim post mid 64 when the R1132 with the 1108 was released.

The hard working restorers bailed out and got the flock out of there mid stream after pulling the shell apart. He was having trouble trying to get sills remade particularly the cut in area at the back doors underneath the kick plates.

They sold the shell and parts and I haven’t heard how the shell ended up since. Jodie and Paul opened up a business called meet the flockers - hence the pun above ; ). Best google it. I was going to send the R8 dash there but went carbon fibre wrap instead.

Edit - I just did and it looks like the business has closed down. There is still a reference on Shannon’s and a couple of those local business registry type websites.

Ah. That's a pity. Maybe the shell will re-emerge some day. Hope they are OK.

You'd know better than many that a full strip restoration is a huge job.

My 63 had an r10 block with the r8 8 port head when I got it in the 80's. Revved well but used the bounce the values- bit like a waste gate in a turbo. Never really had anything original in that car to start with and I've many heads and blocks and gear boxes in all the years I've had it. Only thing that remained constant was the pedal to the floor.
its been under a tarp now for a couple of years but gets a resto this year and a r5g power boost

Thats great as I think the tarp needs to come off as its starting to appear as if it may be wearing a bit thin. Come to the meeting on Wednesday evening, Dean Tighe is going to talk about cams. Good chance to see what can be done with your cam. Although they are available in France. At a cost of course. Is the cam out? if so I could bring it to the meeting.

I think the two bits of the cam are in the front in a box of engine bits. Not going to make the meeting though! Need to convince my dad to allow me to build a shed in kalbar - then I can start.

Bit late for me to find it and take to meeting. Very interesting talk just the same. He suggests just build a new one from billet. They can do it but I didn't ask the cost
