Once in streaming wet weather Sat morning I was going down Vic Ave in Perth onto Riverside drive (a T junction for non Perth people) and the lights changed to amber with 20m to go. Being young and wanting to impress my mate, I did the scando flick in out in, hand brake on the last 'in' hard right, sideways into the intersection turning right, back into second after two frantic tries and then planted it. The car sat there with the front wheels spinning and steam everywhere, oh so slowly picking up traction! I eventually left the intersection and I bet it looked impressive, but the Aquajet name certainly is a misnomer...I think I had about 75bhp...
My new Peugeot 504 which I bought in Darwin in 1973 had Aquajets on it. I think they lasted a couple of weeks before I put Michelins on it. The Aquajets are among the worst tyres I have ever experienced.

ok...I had a visit on sat from John Masefield (fekkow frogger)....He showed me the finer points of a 16 and brought around some handy spares...radiator hoses, radiator cap and a workshop manual...
I think John thought it a good car but will let him make more comment..
Now I know how the fan operates and to my surprise when I moved thelever all the way..the fan worked!!!
I played around with the dash light rheostat and that also now works
still haven't got the tacho working or taken apart the heater valve but am making progress
My glovebox still locked John tried his keys on it but no luck so John started banging it to get it open..
must admit I was anxious something might break and I said not to worry as I will get a key cut but next thing the screwdriver was out and the glovebox pried open...!!!
and inside was a pile of envelopes/paperwork...normally I like to go through this stuff at my leisure but john was keen to discover the contents...well...next thing John is thumbing his way through a wallet and pulls out 2 x gold coins $200 coins...wow...then I find 3 sleeves for the coins but only 2 coins...bugger...where is that other gold coin??
then comes my gold strike...the original owners manual and handbook !!! yee ha
plus the 5000 km service receipt and other receipts from Virage motora as well as golden fleece motors
The original owner was Nicholas Contanedes of 19 peel st Collingwood, car bought from Renault at 449 punt rd,richmond 10th nov 1970
reg being KTB 912...the original sales receipt says list price as $2930 plus $120 for reg, third party ins, stamp duty and pre delivery plus a locking petrol cap for $2.42 making $3050 less house discount of $380 paying $2670...green and bone being original combo.
on the 6/4/1974 Nicolas sold the car to George Dimitriou of 46 gore st Fitzroy and I have the RWC from then...George then owned the car until his death...last service being 2005 at citro but even in 2018 the car still has 2000 miles to go before being due for it's next service...lol
It is beginning to look like the miles are original and not around the clock..
the car is just lovely to drive....just the tacho, heater and oil leak to sort...plus anything the RWC test shows up
I'm starting a list of bits I'm after and they are
    rear view mirror..faded
    new headlights////miy reflectors are faded
    spotlights..faded reflectors
    heater knob
16TS badge located on the dash needs a chrome look surround
    working cig lighter
    wheel centres x 2
some outside chrome trim...some of mine are damaged

    cheers all

What a great result. Was the glovebox damaged by the opening technique?

Now you can get a key cut by taking the tumbler to a good locksmith I guess.

Yet again I just marvel at what is out there in sheds.

    Cheers

What a find with the gold coins! All I've ever found in a S/H car is a 'gold' $1 or #2 one.
