    Default R1135 Gordini 1967

    Hi out there,

Car off to the panelbeater & would like to be able to advise him as to colour codes for the blacks.

I have the body code & the code for the wheels. Where to find would suffice, or if someone knows, could they let me know. I really appreciate all the help so far. The expansion chamber is being repaired soon, does anyone know what pressure is in the cooling system, the repairer would like to know.

    Thanks for any help
    Ross

What black are you referring to?

    The radiator support panel?

There isn't any black painted areas other than that is there?

The radiator panel was originally a satin finish - but often fades to a matt finish fairly quickly in my opinion. I don't have any codes though I'm afraid.

Original fire-wall panel is also black, although mine is now same as body colour; I'm not a purist!

    The brass tank valve opens at 0.65 bar +/- 10%, (9psi +/- 10%).

The later glass bottle valve is circa 0.8 bar (~ 11.5psi) and to be tested to 0.9 bar (13psi).

I believe that in the factory the black was gloss. But was industrial paint without the lead and so faded to satin over a period when exposed to light. That eventually faded even more to a matt black. I have original panels off both an R10 and a Floride S that are still gloss black behind the fire wall and inside the underneith trays. At the time when I removed them, the vehicles had never been restored. I also have a colour photo of a new engine from the period and its block is also shiny black. I have used industrial paint on tractors and within 2 years, where it is exposed to light, it goes from gloss to satin.

Yes, front suspension, motor brackets, bumper bar brackets, firewall panel & the radiator panel.

    Thanks

I don’t think front suspension and bumper bar brackets were painted from the factory, not sure about engine mounts. The others, yes.

Attached is a pic of various (new) components. They are more a satin gloss, than a full gloss or full matt. The front suspension stuff appears to be a very thin bitumen based paint (for corrosion protection) which hardens over time, starting out satin, then becoming hard to remove when you need it removed :-)

The odd new part I have is like that too. A bit 'off' the full gloss.
