Default Early-type R8 stub axle wheel bearing seal size query

    Hi all,

Somewhere, buried safely, I have one new seal for the inner front wheel bearing for the 956 cc R8, R1130. This is the type with the 30204 inner wheel bearing, i.e. the same as 4cv and Dauphine, which did not have inner grease seals.

I'm about to do the job - does anyone know the exact size and availability of the early type seals? I seem to remember looking online and finding only the later ones for the 'unique' inner bearing that fit the later, larger stub axles as used on the R10.

    Cheers

Alas, the one I have is the later type... It fits under the inner wheel bearing with the inbuilt extension that is used on the 22 mm stub axles.

Can’t help John, but sounds like you’d best contact the likely 4cv euro suppliers.

Yes, I think so too. I've never seen them in a catalogue, but there must be some of the cars out there. Even the early Alpine A110s might have them.

I had a slight noise on cornering, and pulled the RHS down this morning. Bearings just perfect and grease clean - last done for the 2007 Muster in Cowra, so I guess 25,000-30,000 km or so since then.

    Thanks Kevin.

Brilliant. Thanks a million Kevin. I hadn't thought to check that supplier - I must now check they are on our new suppliers' list for the Register too!

Now to see if they'll post to Australia! I do have Plan B!!

Strange that I can't find another supplier that lists them, as they are obviously available.

Plan B indeed. I have a chum in France who buys bits for me for no reward other than full reimbursement. I would really like to send him a unique gift for his troubles, something uniquely Australian. I just don't know what.

I have an account with a UK mob called forward2me.
They provide you with a UK address to have stuff sent to (you can pay per month and get multiple addresses say France, Germany, USA etc as well) but I signed up for a free one. There’s a few of them about so a quick google should sort it.

Once they receive it, they contact you and provide a quote to forward it on. Their rates are supposedly cheaper than freight from some of the euro suppliers and they give you a couple of options for freight.

Handy for when companies may not ship out to OZ but will supply to Europe or the UK for example.

Thanks for the tip KB, that might be worthwhile for when I find a big Renault engine for my boat.

That's a good idea! Re the gift, I've used Australian Geographic calendars before now.

I've emailed Arnoud Ventoux and they'll ship to Oz.

    Cheers
