Out government didn't own any car companies. Look what they did to Louis Renault.

They did however own a competitive aircraft manufacturing company. What happened to that?

CAC was never government owned. It was a company owned by BHP, GMH and a few others, although it was formed at the request of the government. It was bought by Hawker de Havilland and later by Boeing.

GAF on the other hand was a government entity. But it was privatised as ASTA which was also bought by Boeing and renamed to Boeing Australia.

I must have been one of the last to land at Fisherman’s Bend with #7 AFAIR.

AFAIR = AS FAR AS I RECALL

Nagaman obviously recalls seven of whatever they are!

In the same, almost flat area, as well as Fishermens Bend there were Aerodromes at Graham St, now under industrial buildings, Port Melbourne Aerodrome, now covered by Garden City, and Coode Island Aerodrome which is now part of Swanston Dock.

I though perhaps AFAIR stood for Aussie Frogs Air.
