    Default Renault Megane Expert?

    Hey all,

I've been on this forum for quite but this is my first post. Mostly I've been interested in playing with Toyotas (Celica GT4s and an MR2) and I briefly had a Peugeot 206GTi. Now I'm looking at the Renault Megane. There's one on Gumtree (https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/oyst...ane/1173172011) and I'm wondering if it would be worth getting and fixing up. Logically, I have been burnt before so I'd say no but it's only $250 and sounds almost like it could be fixed fairly easily. What do you guys think?

    Cheers,
    Grant

Go with your instincts, if it doesn’t feel right walk away. Without knowing the car, and who has done the work, you would have to ascertain what has gone wrong. Is it a coincidental case of a faulty timing belt installation? One that’s gone el-snappo, and now a seeming no-start issue from a faulty TDC sensor, and the keycard just coincidently fell apart…….

It’s a pig in a bag. It may be a bargain, it may be a money pit.

    I'd give it a miss.
By the way, the window regulators are about to fail

Yep, dodge that one at any price. 230000km is one good reason......without the no-start.

I've only driven one normal (non rs) megane, and frankly it was very underwhelming.
Looking at the other cars you have owned.....either pay quite a bit more and get a dented up RS Megan 225 which is a little bit nuts, or pay just a little more (than this Megane pos) and get a crusty Clio sport.
