    Default Le Sorcier (aka Gordini)

    Gordini is a celebrated French engine brand and, in fact, the Renault Sport Racing F1 factory at Viry-Châtillon, is officially called the Usine Amédée Gordini.
    So what is going on?
    Well, it all goes back to a farm – the Podere Mandelli – close to Bazzano. It is an area known for its fruit but Augusto and Lucia Gordini worked with horses and cattle as tenants on the Mandelli property. They had four children: Josephine, Joseph, Amedeo and Marcelline, the four all being born between 1895 and 1900. Sadly, Augusto fell ill and died in 1903 and, because Lucia could not cope with all the children, Amedeo was sent off to live with an uncle, who tended sheep and cattle. When Amedeo was nine, his uncle took him to watch the Coppa Florio motor race on what was known as the Circuito di Bologna, a road circuit to the north-west of the city. Watching the same race that day was a youngster called Enzo Ferrari. Both Ferrari and Gordini were inspired by what they saw. Both wanted to go into the automobile business…...
