Default Renault 12 Ts at Sandown?

I had my first experience of a track day with my little Renault 12TS at Sandown. Slowest car on the day by 30sec to a Renault 8 Gordini. Faster than half the speed of a V8 supercar.

Not bad for a 42 year old car.

Probably not the fastest R12 ever around there though; although this pic is at Phillip Is not Sandown I believe.

I like the upside down windscreen sticker on the outermost Renault.
Every day when I wake up I reach up in the darkness with my eyes shut and if I cannot feel anything that resembles a wooden lid I know it will be a good day. No lid today.

I think i lost a fair bit of rubber off my brand new tyres. Looking forward to the next one.

Fastest car on the day lapped at 1:15 my fastest time was 1:59
    So I'm 63% as fast as a v8 supercar.
Not bad considering i have 1/4 of the engine capacity.

I put my R17TL sway bars on my Virage too Ian. Boy, did that transform the car!
I believe my old Virage has sat in the backyard of the purchasers place since buying it years ago. Bit of a waste of some good bits on it
    cheers,

Not to steal your moment Ian, but for clarity, its a 'standard' R8 with a few little things done to it to make it run a little better from standard (its not a orig R8G).

We were both first timers on Sandown, and I can attest we had a ball with the RCCV guys.

My time was only marginally quicker at 1.57.4648, but the R8 held up fine for its maiden voyage!

I had it rev limited at 5,000rpm as I am still running it in and wanting to drop anything out the back just yet!

Looking forward to more motorsport events in the future.

(I have a short video but don't know how to load it up?)

Some people load videos on YouTube and link it, so that seems to be an option

See Ian. Your 12 is nearly as fast as a Gordini

It would be faster than a Gordini engined Floride, but not rust as fast as a Floride

    Pointless.

You know you're at 90 degrees when you scrape the door handles on the road.

I was told the body roll wasn't too bad.
It felt huge when inside the car but that may have been my head leaning into the corner praying the car would follow.

Actually it was amazing. Going around a corner at 70kmph a controlled drifting outwards on a big wide track all wheels screaming full throttle and the car is still under control. I never thought it possible. Scary but fun.

There is a law against doing more than 100kmh...there's no law on how fast you get to 100kmh!!!

    Hi Paul
Yes I have entered - waiting for confirmation.
Will there be a RCCV area designated for us?
Great to see the 12G there too.
    Cheers

    Hi Paul and Angelo.
I just saw my favorite place mentioned in your posts, 'Geelong Revival' I'm trying desperately to get 'BARNIE' ready for it but I'll be lucky to get it done by end of November this year.
So much to do yet. Had a few set backs, oil pump outer rotor seized in block. Took me 30hours using penatrine and sawing through the corrosion with a 0.004" feeler gauge, but I did eventually get it out and it's ok to use.
Then I just found #2 Con Rod BENT !! so am now chasing a con rod and piston 77mm (R16TS). Colin S is helping me out, good guy. I'm encouraging Colin to come along to the Geelong Revival to.
Haven't started the brakes yet and heaps more to do on the body BUT you never know. Wished I was 20years younger, energy levels taint what they used to be!!

    Cheers
    Phil

    Hi Phil
Hope you can get Barnie ready for the Geelong Revival also - may the Car Gods be with you!
Yes the more Renaults the better - nothing like a show of strength.

Bent????? Wow. How? I'd have thought you'd need something severely wrong and broken, but suppose it could have been a hydraulic lock with coolant in cylinder?

Great re the R12 fun that started this thread.
