Prep takes the most time. Blasting, sanding, cleaning and masking up. But the the painting is easy the part. Good quality etch epoxy primer and then undercoat. Ready for top coat of 2k tomorrow. Bought a new gun for the occasion. Plenty of room for the new motor and the twin DCOE 40 Webers.

Looks great, really is worth the effort. The engine bay will suit the standard of the engine build. I can't wait to see it installed but I reckon your grin will be bigger when you hear the Webers spit and growl when it fires up.

Thanks BustaMif. I do like this etch primer that you can use with a brush to push into joints, etc. I've used it in the really hard to spray areas like underneath but it's fully compatible with the Wattyl etch epoxy primer. But you should seen me under the car with the gun. LOL. More paint is better.

    Webers sound? I can't wait..

Only took two hours to top coat. I painted it in the driveway instead of in front of the spray booth because it's a bit of less dust from all my woodwork but I had the booth on while painting for a good breeze.

A salvage place had these cans of engine enamel in a burnt orange which is no close to my R17 original colour I bought them all. I wanted to use these for the not seen area's like under the guards, etc. But still use 2 k on the bay and front apron. Ended up spraying over some of these ares with 2k anyway as I still had some left over. Only used 2/3 a pot of paint.

Waving a big pot around is difficult when your standing in the engine bay and trying to get into all the little spots but that is what 2k is good for. Sticky stuff finds it's way in there.

I did get one run due to my forgetting the the nozzle fan was set for vertical motion and not horizontal. Damn - but it's an engine bay.

I made a stencil from a print out that is close to the original code font for the paint colour etc. That'll go on tomorrow

Fantastic John. That just looks superb. I've seen those clips somewhere I reckon. Heaven knows where but I'll let my brain spin in the background.

I'm slow off the mark in realizing you love the 17 as much as I love the R8! You've expressed it better, as I've never touched the engine bay.

Don't worry about the run in the paint. Renault sometimes supplied them as standard equipment without extra charge!

    Cheers

A few things happened for the R17 today while the real work to earn money was done by the boy . I took some brackets to a local powder coating business for treatment. I did blast most of these yesterday (public holiday) and set loose some anti rust acid overnight to do it's chore. They will blast them again before a coat of primer is applied, etc.
I also did a bit of wiring loom attachment work using some mountable cable ties from bunners and stainless M5. A bit of extra attention to detail here to make it nice n neat. I then went and purchased some new wiring, connectors, etc from JC for the new gauges, etc. I will plan these with "The Mechanic" to get the set up right in advance

Thanks John for the cable tie thought. I ended up using something non french from bunners. The paint run will be the new addition to the car that will be another talking point for the future!
    Thanks for your interest.
Unfortunately because the french car fest for Perth has been moved closer now, it won't be ready for the event. And I had this plan so on schedule too. I had a few ladies hopes up too for the day.

Well trying to keep up to expectation on what is being done to the "Orange" car, I have had to do the finishing touches to parts promised.

Again I want to thank those that supplied drawings, parts book pages and pictures of the 17G/TS gearbox mountings. They were most helpful in reverse engineering for Shoji's car, and today the paint was put on my rendition. They are a bit heavier than the originals, but I work with material at hand. And I like endurance parts.
