    Default R17 GT Custom LOL

Update from GekoEng last Monday 4th June
"All porting and polishing finished today. Ports are 37.5 diam. Ideal for 40mm DCOE Webers. Now clean and polish valves and prepare for fitting. Do a dummy assembly for combustion chamber and clearances."
Wednesday 6th June: I've been told today by grouch
"For all the pestering you gave me to get a special motor built, I should make you come and clean all the aluminium shavings from the head and inlet ports all over my workbench and floor."

Lucky I had an excuse not to help with cleaning, away in Tassie

"There we are. Head and inlet manifolds done. Still a good bit to do but that is the messy part over"

You need not shop overseas if you don't want to. But that ecu looks pretty good! Lambda control. Nice! That feature set reads pretty true of most of the $1000 Aussie Haltech's either way. (see comparison table toward the bottom to compare inputs / outputs.. wait.. you you must have already done all this..)

Sorry John, I'm sure you have been over all this. I love the ramble.

Gearbox 395 is being cleaned and checked by GekoEng and new seals being installed.
Crankcase breathers have been added to the block.
Also been busy today lightening the flywheel. 1.3 kg taken off. "it should rev a bit faster."

Crankcase breathers? what do they do? help with sharing / neutralising crank case pressure?

Anybody have a few pics of their 17G's oil cooler location under the bonnet and how/what brackets are used?
Trying to get an idea for my install

I think only the TS came with one fitted in Australia and the Gordini missed out. Luckily I’ve wrecked a TS so have one to photograph.

This might help show how and where it attaches.

If you have an original radiator the screw holes are already drilled. Even the R15 radiator has the holes for the cooler. My two 17 TS's and Gordini have an oil cooler? There used to be a generic oil coolers that are identical except for the mounting brackets. The fitting for the engine is almost identical for the one made available back in the 80's for a Falcon. Not sure if they are available any more. But that is what I have on my R12G replica. Do you have the external oil filter base?

    Thanks Sunroof.

I've been looking at pic on the www of Gordini's and I thought they were bracketed to the radiator.
Ray and I will be looking at positioning just behind the rh lights. As there is air flow there and it could work nicely.
It's just knocking up the brackets to suit it.
The unit I have is a speco and the brackets are on the ends as per pic.
Another R17 owner planning to upgrade-acccoolerperformance.jpg
We have a sandwich plate for the hoses that has the fitting for the oil filter.
External would be nice though as every time I do an oil change I manage to drop oil down the side of the block

All 17's with fuel injection were fitted with an oil cooler and external oil filter mount, that is both 17TS and Gordini. The later phase 2 Gordini had a carburettor and I assume no oil cooler. But no phase 2 17's came to Aus. There may be a private import or two though.
