    Default 175/70-13 good news (finally)

I have long bemoaned the mediocre & diminished range of tyres available in the once common R12-family size 175/70-13.

The last good tyre in this size was Continental's EcoContact3. (In replacement, Continental offered the soggy handling & wet-gripless ComfortContact5 - which I recommended avoiding.)

I don't know why but Conti have recently expanded their range to again include the EC3 in this size. Rejoice!

It's a very good wet tyre &, although not a taut handling structure, it can be made to handle nicely crisply as it is stably treaded & responds well to tyre pressure tuning of its structural response.

I can't imagine what criteria (apart from cheapness) would motivate a choice of something else. Hopefully (for the owners of R12s, R17s & so on) Conti will continue to make it available for a good while.

The usual suspects: Bob Jane, Jax, Tyrepower . . .

    Whoever sells Conti tyres.

As Conti have just added it back, the retailer web pages have not caught up yet.

    Enjoy! Peter
