I have a reproduction one, in French, that looks OK to me now it has faded! The originals in Australia were different, saying "CAUTION 4-WHEEL DISC BRAKES" if I recall, or something very similar. They had a transparent base, whereas my "new" one is on a white background (started yellow!).

Simon might come through, or KB. If not, I'll photograph mine for you.

I reckon one of the Adelaide cars has the original sticker that could be photographed and tarted up with Photoshop, from memory.

    Cheers

Nice but not the original Oz decal. I reckon Ray will end up with several to choose from!

    Ray,

If you're going to get some of either design printed, I'd suggest getting a few extra copies to sell.
There'd be at least half a dozen buyers or so I'd imagine. Myself included. I personally would like the Oz version as per JohnW though I'm confused as to why it would be in French. John, do you mean R1130's only had this or Heidelburg assembled R1132; 1135's?

Whoops, I've caused confusion. My sticker is an aftermarket one I found on Ebay France a few years ago.

The genuine ones used in Oz, on R8 1100s definitely and I don't know about my R1130 model, were quite different. We need to find a surviving one!

I think I found that font too a few months back!

It may be as difficult as typing it out yourself. I'll have a look at home.

Well, I've checked my old magazines for tests of the original R8 (R1130) and none of the cars have that sticker on the rear window. So, we need an original R8 1100 to check. The only R8 1100 I know in Perth hasn't the sticker. I'm fairly sure one of the Adelaide Hills cars at the Junee Muster had the sticker, at least enough to get the words and style right. Now to find the name....

    You mean the grey one?
It's possibly Dave Hicks of Birdwood?

I have that number in my phone since Junee, and I think that's who it was.
His sister owned the white one from memory - or there was some relation between the two but as she was married, she had a different surname.

That's the name, thanks. I think I have his email address from last year or a bit further back. I found a photo of the back of his grey R8 last night - maybe slight remnants of the sticker but not enough to recreate one. Yes it was his sister I think - there were three of them from Adelaide in total if I recall. I'll let you know how I get on with it.

    Cheers and thanks

I have Ben Emmelkamp's old grey R8 1100 with the sticker intact but faded. It reads "CAUTION ... 4WHEEL DISC BRAKES"and is in black outline letters on a clear background. I have taken photos on my iPhone and will try to post them. Incidentally, David Hicks is my brother in law as I am married to his sister Alison. Jo, his youngest sister owns the white R8 you saw at Junee.
The Sticker is 405mm long and letters are 30 mm high with the "E" 10mm wide and each stroke is approx 2.8 mm wide.I cannot find a similar font on my computer but will keep looking

That is great Peter, and thanks for contributing. I have photos of your car beautifully original car, but cannot quite make out the sticker (reflections perhaps). I did think I remembered seeing the sticker at Junee and being surprised. I will PM you my email address, so you can send the photograph at full file size and I can play with it in Photoshop for Geckoeng.

The question for everyone is "does anyone remember colours. I had this vague memory of the letters being filled with colour, maybe one colour for the "CAUTION" and a different colour for the rest? I will chase that up with people I know in Perth.

    Cheers

    Thank you John and Peter,

Your pictures via email are perfect, and give me a good idea of where we need to go. I did find some pictures on the net of European cars, and I think I will take out the "caution" and replace with Renault as the European ones.

When the artwork is complete (my son) I will put it up, and get opinions and orders.

    Thank you all,
    Ray

Sounds like there are a couple of different types. The ones (very few) I've seen are as described by Pedro above, but with the words bookended by the R8 logo as stamped on the door sill aluminium threshold plates. Black uppercase letters on a clear background.

Thanks Simon. I was hoping you'd spot this.

Your description of the "R8" bookend rings a bell too. I'm suspecting it is an Australia-only thing, and am waiting for responses from the key people in UK and USA, the main English-speaking markets. I guess I should ask re South Africa, but Frans will see this I expect. And, in any case, Geckoeng would know and his request suggests that it wasn't used there.

    Cheers

So, I'm starting to fill in the gaps.
Pedro, were you at the Forbes Muster in an R10?; with Jo in the white R8 and Dave in his grey R8 at the Junee muster?
But your Grey R8 is the ex Jaap Emmelkamp car which presumably you've bought since Junee perhaps?

So, when you put Simon and Pedro's information together, the repro 59Floride posted early on, seems the best compromise?

Dig out a copy of the December 1965 Wheels magazine, the test of the 8G also shows the format.

I will go hunting. Thanks Simon.

Well, there is also an R8 advertisement on the page after the road test. It is clear from two photos in that edition that the R8 symbol is at each end of the notice. All B&W, so the colour question is not yet answered. There may be more than one version of course! And yes, it is the R8 symbol with the bar across from the R to the 8.
