    Default Gordini engine restoration.

    Hi All,

I have been asked by a Renault owner to restore a Gordini engine for him. It is a 804 1100 G engine and is for his A110. He requested that it must remain original for his purpose and I will do so.

My first question is then: what colour was the engine block of these 804s and also the sump. The pictures shows it at the moment and it is not what I hope it must be. But if that is correct then so be it. There are other greens that I saw that wasn't that good looking either.

I think that the photo colour is reasonably true.

    Regards

    Frans.

    Hi Frans.
The green was used on early R1134's.
    However, 1135's were black.
What engine did the A110 have originally?
    Is it French? Mexican?
An engine swap would not be original anyway, so i guess it is up to you and the owner to decide.
    Non?

Frans, when you get the colour scanned, would you mind awfully posting the formula?

The engine paint shown is too light. Old engine paint is darker than that I have a number of engines with the last bits of green and they are all darker. I got one scanned once and it was still not quite right. I have also had one colour matched and it did come out very close.

As already mentioned, that colour is too light - almost like an early Falcon block colour. The original "moteur vert" is a darker green, not BMC green, I've attached (or will have a go at attaching) a pic of a component, but they rarely reproduce well in pics. It would be best to have an original component and get a good paint place to match by eye.

Also, with those early 804 8G motors, the whole motor, including the head and rocker cover was painted green.

Thank you all, this gives me enough info to go to the owner for his input. It turned out okay, I thought it would look fugly.

Still don't like the head paint idea, love the alloy look more.

Even the early R8 Gordini had head and tappet cover painted green.
