Default Another Renault R8 awakening in NZ.

    Hi All,

Here is another R8 sticking its head out here in NZ. It is a 65 model and has had a respray. Photos is not that good as it was taken in bad light. It belongs to my Son in Law and has been asleep for a while while they got settled with kids and now a permanent house etc.

He has Delta Mics for it (needs some care) and bought a R11 some time ago that he used until the warrant required rust repairs. He kept the 1400 engine and discarded the body. That 1400 will go in this car and then after that we might just refresh the motor.

The colour is a plain orange, not a metallic pearl type, although it looks like that on the photo.

    Regards.

...now that's what you call orange peel.

Put a white roof and front doors on it, and it has the making of a replica Renault Service vehicle.

This will be a road car. At this stage it looks like it will just be a nice drive-able fresh 1397cc. Maybe a little fresher later on?

The colour looks nice, I agree. A daylight picture might look differently, though.

    Hi there Frans.
Great to see another R8 saved from the crusher. Can't wait to see it completed. Love the colour and texture of the finish.
I'm respraying the BARN FIND (Barnie) bit by bit as time and energy allow me. It will be a very close to Gordini Blue. I'll have the 10foot rule on the spray job when I'm finished (viewing - no closer than 10foot) ha Ha The centre of the Bonnet is for Matte black to hide undulations due to poor state of Bonnet!
My car will mainly be for absolute fun - sprints, hill climbs, gymkhanas.
    Cheers for now
    Phil

    Frans.
In my judgement, the 1.4 responds nicely to moderate warming (a single side-draft with enough of a cam to make it a worthwhile fitment, an extractor & so on). A warm 1.4 R8 is a nicely brisk country road car. (On front offset & tyre choice grounds, I don't, however, share enthusiasm for 13" wheels on a road car, however pretty; my recommendation would be 14" using R16 centres but ymmv.)

    cheers! Peter
