    Default renault no more

Sadly, I just got news from the panel beater that my little megane 225 is a write off.:disappear:
It fought a brave battle last friday and made quite a mess of the hilux ute that changed lanes into it. It was written off too apparently.

Thankfully no one was injured in what could easily have been a fatality crash.

For the first time in nearly two decades I find myself without a renault.

    Hey Jo.
Glad you are okay mate. Very sad news about the demise of your Megane.
Buy the wreck back and transplant the engine into an Rx-4.......woohoooo

Otherwise, hope you are well buddy.

I am really enjoying my new Clio Cup. Not sure if you'd seen the post about my Christmas present to myself. Went with the Clio as I wasn't able to get finance for a greater amount for a Megane RS. The DCE is lots of fun and it's great to be able to be lazy in auto mode and just flick the paddles when you want a quick boost

Glad to hear you're unscathed, Jo. Sorry about your RS though......

The checklist of current needs pretty much excludes a renault.

Bad news, mate. Like everybody else, glad you and everybody you care about is in one piece.

I was just about to ask you how you got rid of the sticky residue on the centre console plastics when you bought your car. Seem to remember you found some solvent to wash the goo away. My son's RS Megane (just like yours) is going through the process of parting with its plastics' surface finish as we speak and wanted to pass on the info if you remember.

jif did a good job of it, then a respray in cheap satin black enamel paint.
I used course stainless steel scouring pad to ever so gently abrade the old slime.
If you are gentle, that won't harm the substrate plastic, but obviously if you go in hard, you'll leave big scratch marks.
Maybe a scrunched up orange bag would be a better weapon and less brutal.

This is sad news Jo. But the good news is that you're OK.

If you are still a Renault free zone in July, my 2015 Megane GT Line wagon will be for sale. Not as exciting as the 225, but still a very pleasant drive.

    Cheers,

    pj

    G'day Jo,
Good news that you are OK.
As my darling has oft said to me, it is only a car/bike/piece of machinery. It can be replaced, you can't.
    regards,

You get like that, after a few realities hit home and distractions enter the scene (in my case health).

I'm getting pretty indifferent to major vehicle works too.

In my case distractions are females…..lots and lots of them hence the need for 7 seats.

I'm looking closely at all the vehicle options….Yes even the french ones, but I hate to admit the korean options look better.

but I hate to admit the korean options look better.
Why not look at the Japanese import scene? Toyota Estima and Nissan Elgrand.

Both far better quality and better fittings and finishes than Korean and available in $10-12k range at 100,000k.

Just make sure any JDM import has the 7seat certification provided. It's a separate process to registration and DOTARS approval.

Also view the Japanese deregistration certificate and check the odo reading matches the the car.

And there is one dealer who is well known as odo an "whizzer" initials are EL.
