Default Clio 172 Dash top removal

As the central display unit on my Clio 172 was blank, I decided to remove the top of the dash to get at it. This turned out to be a frustrating exercise, only solved by inserting my Iphone camera into the windscreen vent to illuminate the problem which is related to the top's attachment to the passengers airbag bracket. All this pain just to replace 2 1.2W bulbs; the weakest link. I am happy to share my experience with others who may be contemplating restoring the display of clock, outside temp and radio station, if the interest is there.

Take the two sode pillars off hat lead up from dash screws behind then and if you have a ph1 three more in centre of dash, or ph2 unclip ie pull off the silver grey bars that run along middke of dash and screws behind them thats it.

Was rushing typing yesterday, yeah mega easy!!! Take the two side trims that run upside of front windscreen they just unclip, then you will see sides of dash undo them screws, you will have 3 in centre of dash were the heat comes out of vents, also if its ph2 you will have to pulloff the trim. That runs along the dash thats long and thin about 2 inch wide it just pulls off and screws behind that. Thats it then!!

As Gezza said, that is the easy bit. The hard part is making the top cover's substantial plastic prongs unclip from the three metal rectangular eyeholes in the passengers airbag bracket. After lifting the front of cover about 20mm to release it from the two clips on either side of the airbag, the cover then needs to be pressed down about 2mm at a spot some 50mm towards you from the windscreen vent, then pulled back about 2mm at the same time. DO NOT PULL HARD. This can distort the eyeholes which close up and make the job very difficult.

If Gezza found the job that easy he is either a lucky chap or someone has previously filed off the locking lugs on the three prongs, thus risking blowing off the whole of he dashboard cover if the passenger airbag inflates.

Just make sure you disconnect the battery and either wait15 mi utes or press various buttons ie horns lights brake pedal to drain any excess charge in the system yeah that final bit wss just a litte fiddly but still not hard.or i was lucky......
