Default One other point on sales...... in japan

Now I know this is a old article but it begs the question when you are looking at the japanese sites, like the http://www.kurumayama.com/fbm/ French Blue Meeting or http://www.meet-f.com/ Meet the France day had over roughly 2800 cars. Of course not all were renaults but it gives you the feeling that renault must be doing pretty well over there, well when you read this article below it make you wonder how their dealers stay in business. Seems to me that australia looks like it is doing quite well, but this opinion is un imformed on all the facts......... so it's just for interests sake......

MAKUHARI, Japan, Oct 22 (AFP) - French carmaker Renault is aiming to sell 6, 000 cars and break even in Japan in 2006, the head of Renault Japan Alain Lehmann said Wednesday.

Renault, which holds a 44.4 percent stake in Nissan, now sells fewer cars in Japan than before it took control of Japan's then ailing second-ranked carmaker in 1999.

The French giant sold 2,400 cars in 2002 in Japan -- a market of 5.8 million new cars a year -- Lehmann told AFP at the opening press day of the Tokyo Motor Show. It used to sell around 3,000 cars a year before the alliance with Nissan.

"We will do better this year," he said.

In the nine months to September, Renault sold 1,718 cars in its own right up to the end of September.

Lehmann attributed the decline to the disruption resulting from the re-organisation of its distribution network to bring it into line with Nissan's.

"Our importer has changed and we have had to start the network from scratch, " he said.

The Renault Japan boss declined to say how much the company is losing in Japan, but said the subsidiary was expected to break even by 2006, and could even turn a small profit if the yen strengthens agains the euro.

Renault is banking on the Megane and Kangoo range -- cars with a roomy style that sets them apart from other imported models -- to boost its sales, Lehmann said.
