Default A few general 4CV questions.

Still plugging along on the beach car...but have a couple of questions that should common with the 4CV.
On the engine compartment tins...the ones that are vertical that help direct air through the radiator. The ones that came out of this car were some sort of cardboard...would that have been correct or were they originally metal? These look like they may have been cut out by hand...but they are also old and pretty tattered.
Was the Gear lever shaft chrome plated?
    Thanks:
    Ed

The originals are cardboard and they are available new from the French suppliers.

Gear levers are plated, but not as bright as chromium and yellowish rather than bright and blue-ish. Maybe nickel, and someone else may know.

I'll get his permission and send you that ROCNA email address. We're overseas so it might take a few days!

    cheers

Thanks john...I think I can fabricate some new ones... the beach car doesn't need the heater spots cut out.
Thanks in advance for the email!

Oh...the yellow chrome is an industrial plate. I need to get the handbrake handle plated too.

PM finally sent, with apologies for the delay.

It's only a faint tinge - most people wouldn't notice unless they put it alongside a bumper bar.

If it's nickel a plater can generally do it - in a lot of chrome plating processes nickel is used as the under layer

If you want that finish just get them to put it through the nickel bath a few more times to build up the thickness and not bother about the chrome

It is a nice finish - not as shiny as chrome and polishes up well with a bit of care

I honestly don't know for sure it is nickel, but it is a really nice finish. Chrome is a bit too blingy in some places for my taste. Chrome looks good on 4CV bumpers, but the more restrained finish is nicer inside, or at least I think so, whatever it is.

Love the photo of the complete dash, steering wheel etc. It will be superb when finished!
