Icon7 Renault 4 at Bakers Creek Falls east of Armidale

Having seen the 4 at the foot of the Falls and knowing the history of the 4 used in the University mine downstream, is there anyone out there who knows of these cars that once were.

    Hi Smalley,
I am not sure if you want some information about R4 in general, or just for the ones at the Uni mine at Armidale.

I had a R4 years ago and it was a remarkable car and probably not as appreciated at the time as it should have been.

    Wonderful things.
I have owned and operated many.

The most interesting was a Fourgonnette LHD that had been fitted out as a camper and driven around the world, and around Australia twice (by the previous owners).

My "stable" was often a DS and an R4.

Oddly, I've never owned/driven a 2CV, those who have suggest that the R4 is a better beast.

I also loved the R16TS, of which the R4 was a kind of "mini me."

Independent, torsion bar bar suspension, rack and pinion steering ... a very comfortable small car in an era where
small cars were often very basic. Engine was adequate (850cc) and the brakes, "serviceable" (drums), but you learned a lot about
how to drive by piloting an R4. Comfortable, handled well.

I'd still be happy to have one.

And both with the different wheelbase on each side!

Baker's Creek Gorge has a bit of a history - it's not only old Renaults that have finished up at the bottom of the falls!
