Icon5 Renault Clio II - Engine missing and fuel filter location

Hi all. No nobody has stolen the engine, rather it has a random miss at idle and is more noticeable at light throttle settings. This started this morning out of the blue.

Last year I had a similar problem, not the same though in feel. This was two pencil coils. I replaced all four plus sparkplugs, problem solved.

At my local Repco outlet, one of the guys there suggested a new fuel filter as I have only done 99000Kms and to my knowledge no fuel filter has been changed (nor timing belt!). I have also put some injector cleaner in fuel.

Where is the fuel filter located?

What else is a common fault that could cause this?

Where can I get a workshop manual for this car?

    Cheers Jim

The Haynes workshop manual can be obtained from ebay, mine was shipped from the UK, cheaper then here. I can look up the location of the fuel filter when I get home.

Thank you. I'll look on ebay... could not see filter crawling under car... need ramps but I've just moved house and the garage is in a right mess.

I don't know much about Renaults, but in most modern cars there is one immersed in the fuel tank.

Clio fuel filter is located near the leading edge of the fuel tank.
Sort of under the right rear passenger.
Access from under the car with quick disconnect fittings on plastic fuel lines.
Having said that, logic would dictate that at low throttle, less fuel is required, but under heavier
throttle, more fuel needs to flow. A restricted fuel filter would inhibit the higher flow rate.
I would revisit spark plugs and ignition system, fuel grade, "sticky" fuel pump - etc.

I can't find anything in my manual about a fuel filter, my manual is only for the k series petrol engines and the diesel.

Thanks all, I'll tackle this problem tomorrow on my RDO. I feel it's ignition related, I have a couple of spare coil on plugs somewhere in the garage... guess I'll be taking the ever reliable Mini to work today.

The exhaust has a random miss to it.

Driven... I can only find owners manuals on that link, am I missing something?

Ok, found my old coils, changed it onto all 4 cylinders... no difference still has semi rhythmic miss. Looked at plugs (BOSCH Platinium) they all look good and slightly wet (as engine is cold) except for the one nearest to drivers side where it looks very dry.

Maybe injector(s) as these are the original. Car is idling low, but misses still when revving it.

If injectors, where is a place that I can get some of the shelf today besides renault?

Do you have a diagnostic tool to see if there are any codes.

It may take some of the guess work out of working out what the problem is.

Fixed! Pulled the plugs again and noticed the one on nearest the clutch end was very wet. I bought these Bosch Platinum plugs last year when I changed the ignition coils.
Sometimes it the simplest of things. Not impressed the spark plug crapped itself though. There is no signs of arcing down the insulator, so it must be on the nose of the insulator. Go figure!

    Thanks all for your help.

I couldn't offer help but was following with interest! I was hoping to find you'd fixed it today - plugs eh!! Can't blame Renault for that, not that you were. Really good to hear that it is fixed.

When Peugeot nearly beat Audi at Le Mans in maybe 2008, they were faster, won the whole endurance series but lost Le Mans due to a Bosch battery that failed in their lead car if I recall.

    Cheers

Yep, just one plug! In all the years I've been driving (42) I can't recall ever having a plug go on me. I wanted to replace them with NGK's but where I was was out of them, and I was trying to complete my house removal. Cars going sweetly, even idles properly from cold. Maybe the plug(s) were failing slowly and I din't notice?

Stay tuned for my timing belt change thread!
