Icon10 Race wheels for R8 Gordini

    Hi Guys.

OK this is a big ask!!

Anybody out there just might have an old set of these 13" laying about not being used !!

If you have a set of these or something similar you might want to sell I'm on the look for some.

Please send me a PM if you think you might have something.

    Hi Phil,
What you are showing are AMW wheels from South Africa. A replica copy of a Deltamic or an Avanti wheel.

Contact "dauphproto" as he has made his own replicas.

Not wanting to hijack the thread but bringing back memories. AMW stands for Angelo Motor works. Angelo Peirra did those castings and an exact copy of a Gordini head and rocker cover to fit on the Dauphine engine. He also raced a 1953 Fiat Toppolino with a DKW engine in it. I have a 8mm home film with him losing it in Crowthorne corner at Kyalami track in 1962.

Not wanting to continue the hijack but..... A Topolino with a DKW engine boggles the mind. Thinking of relative power and weight aspects, it's a neat idea making the most of what he could get his hands on no doubt. What else do you have on 8 mm I wonder.....

And Phil got his answer too!

There's a full set of cosmics that only sat on my garage floor for five hours before someone returned with cash, loaded them up and headed back to Adelaide.

I wouldn't have let them sit any longer than that on your floor either.

    But the clue is Adelaide.
They would of been in Leeton for years or decades even, five hours in Melbourne and now the last two years almost, sitting in someone's garage in Adelaide.

    Hi Phil,
"dauphproto" is Steven Swan in Scotland (Perth). He is the only one I know who has made his wheels. He actually sent me his mould pattern so I could make my own wheels pattern. But I have been to busy to progress with them. The picture came from Steven.

    See : www.r8gordiniworkshop.com

The only other place you find similar wheels are from Gotti or on the Mecaparts website.

When you said "He actually sent me his mould pattern" could you get a wheel company to make a set of wheels from it ??

    Thanks mate. Phil

If you think about that. I'd doubt he has sent his moulds out. I would say he has sent a cad drawing of the pattern moulds so that Ray can make a mould himself. Then if you could find some where that can cast them, then he could make a set of his own wheels.

That could be a good little earner for him if he can get them done at a reasonable price. I'm sure there'd be quite a queue for sets at the right price.

John a guy in France did a set for himself about late 2013 or early last year. I think some one had the mould. Might see if I put the site in my favourites. If I find it I'll put it up on here.

Thanks. Sounds dangerous.... I'm booked for the 70th birthday celebrations at Montlhery in May, so who knows what might fit in a suitcase!

Don't worry about fitting them into a suitcase John, just get a big packing box and send by snail mail to Aust. Slow, YES cheaper MUCH MUCH.
