Default What's The First Renault Sport?

Now that I've got four Florides, actually done to three as soon as I throw whats left of the rusty metal at the scrapers, but I've gained a Clio sport which brings it up to two, I decided to finally join the OZ Renault Sport Forum.
I started this thread there but thought perhaps a little more knowledge could be found here. It reads as follows....
So what do you guys think was the first Renault Sport?
Was it a road car or race car?
Not being that old and not knowing to much of its earlier history the two cars that come to mind are, the Floride as a sports car and the 4cv race car that raced at Le Mans both from the fifties.
Anything earlier or do you disagree with those two?

Are you meaning sporty renaults, or cars made under the name 'Renault Sport'

It should not be too hard to find the first Renault Sport car by simply looking when renault sport was founded (1976??) and working forward from there.
For my money, alpine or Gordini or any other tuning house are not renaultsport.

Good question. Not much racing for a while after Marcel was killed on the Paris - Madrid. But the 1906 Grand Prix is surely up there.

Apart from those early pre-1910 road events, the early GP events and the Vanderbilt races in USA, I don't think there is much until the post-war years and the 4CVs at Le Mans in 1950 or 1951.

    The sub section is -general-renaultsport-renault-gordini-alpine-vehicles/
so a generalised question, which I'm sure will go off on a tangent here on AF.

There's a difference between RenaultSport and sports Renaults.

Wasn't it sort of a combined company between Gordini, Alpine in the mid 70's
