Yes, the 2.1 diesel would be interesting for a Fuego collection too.

Alternator looks huge compared to the motor! Love the dash colour, makes me think of the 605.

I wonder if an all aluminium v6 would squeeze in. It couldn't be heavier than a 4 cyl douvrin ?

I remember a mate telling me he was in Paris when they were released and was quite excited to see the new coupe and quickly opened the bonnet to find an R12 motor.

Yeah, they got their money's worth out of that motor. Was used in renos up until the late 90s I think?

That reminds me of when I went to the Motor Show the year the VB Commodore was released. After all the hype about the new Commodore I opened the bonnet to find a red in there

Well, you can fit a 90 degree V6 in there, and an inline four (although not both at once). So a Gen III should be quite feasible.

I always liked the idea of a 12 engined Fuego. Less weight over the front end, with a quicker rack than standard it could be quite a sweet car. Those 13" rims look a bit teeny-tiny though. This one looks a bit of an oddball to me, Renault 25ish pedals, 25 front armrests, and an odd VIN.

The Fuego in Australia only had the 'big' 2 litre motor but in Europe they had everything from the 1.4 litre R12 motor to the 2 litre.
Remember the Fuego is just a R18 with a 2 door body, (Like the R15/R17 is an R12 with a 2 door body).
So the Fuego came with the same engine options as the R18.
I think it was 1400, 1600, 1600 turbo, and 2000 if memory serves.

Wasn't there a diesel option as well?

I reckon the finishing touches were just being made to that car on my first visit to French Connection way back in 1989, the car was being tested out the front sans bonnet. Then the next time I saw it was at a 1997 FCD, fully sorted with a shedload spent on the suspension. It sounded brilliant.

Leads to another "where is it now?" doesn't it. The photo of the red car (with the silly wheels IMHO) reminded me what a striking car the Fuego remains. Excellent cars. Like others, I had no idea that they were sold with Sierra engines.

It became an unfinished project. Last I saw it it was engine less in a yard in heidelburg. The engine/box were going to be mid mounted in a 15. As far as I know the yard got sold and the lot got crushed
