I think that the flat 4 is a delicious engine type.

I went to Monthlery in May to the Lozenge Passion International event near Paris. There were some 80 4CVs there - "died and gone to Heaven" comes to mind.

Here are just a few of the 4CVs.... And yes, it is a genuine R1063, one of few since most of them are "ordinary" 4CVs with the good bits added later, as they were available for sale at the time.

    Wow John

What did the van look like inside? Was it just missing the back seat with a flat floor added? What's with the roof on the Police car? It seems to have studs or something along the front above the windscreen? What a 4CV droolfest!
    cheers,

    John

I'm embarrassed to say I didn't get around to looking inside the van. The row of studs hold on a strip of aluminium on the police car roof (a 4CV PIE). They were specially built in batches and, with that big back window and the lack of door pillars, there might be some extra strengthening in the roof. I'll see if I can get an answer to that question. I drove that 4CV PIE by the way....

It was quite a weekend - there were 650 Renaults in total and Renault Classic brought no fewer than 27 cars from 1898 onwards, and ran many of them. I'm not sure I'll ever see anything like it again!

    Cheers

I have a rather nice book on 4CV "specials" & one that I like is the pictured roadster. I was reading a 2015 magazine today & one was up for sale for £25,000. (Easier to create one's own I think!)

    cheers! Peter

Perhaps it would be easier to build your own. But getting it approved for registration would be difficult and perhaps make it more costly.

Foot accidentally slipped off the clutch and all hell broke loose? Such power needs to be treated with respect!

That VW powered Dauphine looks like a standard Dauphine with a bad dose of haemmarhoids.

Hmm, R1060 failure. My understanding was they shed rear wheels and axles, not the complete swing axle assembly. That is held on by 6 hefty studs after all right through to R8 Gordini.

    Wow.

Must have been the excessive power I guess....
