I am ready to rebuild my 330 transmission and noticed that 2 of the 330-03 transmissions had a somewhat of a universal joint in the shift linkage where as the 330-39 transmission where solid . Is this some ones enhancement or why the difference ??

The connection on the 330-39 is the later variation, and provides a more precise gear selection, especially as the car gets older. With the earlier type, the pins and block can be subject to wear and consequent play, making the shift even more wooly than usual.
