Well It hasn't been on skinny tyres for a while, so I found an empty gravel car park and spent some time throwing it around..

    https://youtu.be/QxaBvLeaozI

Long story short, The bucket seat is fantastic, it really really really does keep you in place and your arms are not hanging on, who would have thought And the thicker sway bars give it a nice bit of turn in. In the example above I was merely able to turn it in, get of the gas whilst in second gear and the thing would step out neatly. At slower speeds it wasn't as easy but a sharp stab on the brake had a similar result.

This this going to be great deal of fun on the weekend.

Well an update on the Nodiz that blew a driver.

A few emails from the Company (Motorsport Electronics) and it's coming back my way.

They seemingly repaired it on the day it arrived, (after emailing me to say it arrived) confirmed my returned address, asked for the prior mentioned fee (44 pounds) and now I have a tracking number to follow it's trip back over here.

That be some pretty good service.

So just with the hose from to clear the crud from the weekend (see Khanacross thread in motorsport land) . I had hoped that the 180km drive off would have shaken most of it off. Perhaps it did because the rest was quite annoying to break free.

Firstly lets talk about the bottom of the front guards. There is a panel that lives under the light in front of the wheel, well they pretty much just became scoops. There was probably 5, 6kg of mud each packed on that up around the back of the lights, It was nearly packed form the plate, up over the back of the plastic light box. Impressive. I'm tempted to put my thinking cap on and design a section of rods of length that still provide shape and support to the bottom of the guards without being enclosed and collection points for crap.

Under the chassis, the rear beam looked like it had been used as a shovel. The bottom grove provided a great perch in which to build a mud-beam.

The brakes lines of course became a great collection point. Oh the rear lines actually broke out of the clips at a couple of placed, well mud collecting forced it off and bent it. I suppose that's why people run lines internally? Sounds like a good idea.

But heck what good fun. looking forward to the next one.

Well done, Bowie. Proves that you don't need to spend megabucks to have shitloads of fun.

You can use a set of internal flaps inside the mudguard to control where shit goes and how much can accumulate. You just need to find some stiff rubber and some way to attach it to the metal.

Maybe a inner guard liner from a modern car cut to size and held in with screws or the plastic clips off the car you get the liner will do the job

ah yeah! Good idea lads. Yes new cars have these liners that wobble all in the wheel arch, I'll have a look and think about a suitable donor.

Yeap, that might provide a neat solution, but it may take some effort.

My suggestion was aimed at being immediately applied with not much effort. Also, inner guards tend to fill up with wet mud until they clog the wheel well.

I agree Schlitz, I suppose I was thinking of something in the middle, grab half a circle out of something and bolt it into the inner guard.

I must stick my head in wheel arch of some of the proper cars there next time and see what they do, if anything at all.

There were a couple of mud flaps that where torn of from weight of crap collecting on them actually. Anyway, I have a few other chores to do before I worry about mud flaps.

    Oh! and It turns out I don't need a duel circuit master cylinder to enter SuperSprints. Check out Part H of Schedule B;

    http://docs.cams.com.au/Manual/Gener...0AB-2018-1.pdf

    H) be fitted with a dual circuit braking system save for automobiles manufactured prior to 31 December
    1973 or of the 5th Category;

Yaaaaaaaay I can actually enter Supersprints as is. right now.. well... pretty much.

And my Nodiz ECU has been returned. Yaaaaay

    So just to refresh,

-5yr old ECU I bought of Gumtree
    -It blew a coil driver
-Sent it back to the manufacture whom was happy to repair.
    -$80 repaired and returned.

    Happy Bowie is happy.

Now I might out a smaller fuse on it (recommended 15amp) I'll run a 10amp just because.

Well I left at lunch time to head home sick. The office was annoyed at me coughing over everything. I had the reno at work so I wondered over to the shed to borrow the hoist just to see if I got all the mud out from under it.

The boys in the shed where having a slow day, skip forward till 9pm and now I'm home with the Koni's in, and the ream beam with the wagon drums, and the thing sitting ~100mm lower.

Firstly the stock front shock was all but dead. Good timing really.
    My R12 POS Arrived!-img_20180907_142021942.jpg

And the length of the spring truly is amazing.
    My R12 POS Arrived!-img_20180907_143112841.jpg

The boys had some interesting tools at their disposal..
    My R12 POS Arrived!-img_20180907_143334507.jpg.

    Look, Red!
    My R12 POS Arrived!-img_20180907_163646094.jpg

We cut about 3 coils of the front and nearly two out of the rear. Well it was measured to be 100mm from each spring. Yes we heated up the end and flattened it out to make a better perch. Interestingly one of the lads here worked at a suspension shop prior, confessed this is what they used to do all the time. I was worried about cutting springs and he reassured that many stock after market variants ie. Low, Super Low, are actually the same spring just cut and flattened.

As you can see however there are heaps of coils left, it was still a bit of a struggle to get in but the prior mentioned hoist, and then binding the spring in fens cable held it in place..

The Koni's feel amazing. Absolutely stiffer compared to what came out of it. The Initial drive home was most rewarding. It's not crashy either. I can't wait to find a couple of round-a-bouts.

Oh what does 100mm looks like? ARDC Skunk-vorks presents.

The lowered 12 looks great. Instead of buying uprated springs for my 12 G replica perhaps I should have just done the same as you Bowie.

That's pretty much what I did years ago to my old Trojan, Bowie. Can't remember if I cut 2 or 3 coils out of the front, didn't touch the rear springs. Had the front shockers rebuilt and revalved for firmer control by Pedders and fitted 17TL sway bars front and rear. Worked a treat 😉

I think you might just have that little bit of extra fun (and control) with proper springs lets be honest I'd love to drive a proper one back to back and see just how nicer it is.

    But since I'm not the wealthiest man on earth, I was happy to be reassured by the brains trust with the blow torch and cutting wheel that all will be sweet. And so far, it is. Oh! I do also have the standard measurements should anyone else need to quote in effort to have front springs made without having the spring on the counter in front of the shop keep;

    13.5mm diameter wire
    505mm free length
    132mm Internal diameter
    110mm ID pig tail

J-man, it sounds like you had it set pretty much to what I have now. Yes it's awesome. Oh why did you leave the rear alone?

Yes, it handled great like that. I didn't need the 4WD tilt gauge anymore either 😂😂

With the Dunlop mags I put on, the 175 tyres tended to rub on the outer guards on the back when loaded, so I didn't want to lower the rear plus it wasn't too high in the back anyway. I don't mind a bit of rake on a car too, with the front a smidge lower than the back 😉
    cheers,

    John

Ah yes, I will have to move forward with some ricy rear guards to fit the 205's in there now. If only there was a sensible way to give it a bunch of rear camber it would probably fit past the angle in the panel..

Suppose one could heat up the corners of the beam and bend them like a dickhead?

I mighty have a proper look and experiment with the old beam now, surely I can remove the hub and wack some spacers in there?

Yeah, and you might shear the bolts. But I think you could do it properly with some surgery on the beam, you know, cut the plate, adjust the mating face and weld the plate back on. Maybe give it some toe in while you're at it.
