Quote from Phil in another thread. ďThe original rego plate was DHP-617 and after many years and a passenger side front end write off the car was re-registered to BIX-794Ē

DHP would have been issued late in the second half of 1963.

BIX would have been issued in 1969.

I canít recall the Toongabbie car having a rear mounted aerial or black bonnet back in the 90ís but it did have the blackouts on the rear oanel, a nudge bar and at least one dark yellow fog light (possibly two). I seem to recall it having two such lights on the front, not four as in your photo but it looks like it changed a fair bit even in your time of ownership.

I agree with Jman. It looks like it has had a front repair so some of those cosmetic differences could have been accident repair. If I get the chance, Iíll ask if we can get to it and inspect the boot area, as that sounds like it will be the most telltale sign to ID the car.

The guy who owns it now, bought it off the fellow who had it back in the 90ís, and I know he had owned it continuously for quite some time so it possible he bought it off you. The time sequences appear to add up somewhat.

Gee KB you are some detective. Yes I distinctly remember pot riveting all the front repair together prior to a friend brazing it together. It was a home repair and sitting on 4 empty oil drums in my back yard in Richmond NSW. I'm sure I bought a inner guard but cut it in half to fit it to the remaining undamaged part of the left guard.

I'll be very interested to see if you track it down. When I traded it in on the R16TS the R8 looked immaculate and went like a rocket.

    Thanks again for your time
    Phil

I believe those Alconi badges referred to back in 2010 are now on my version of an Alconi.

The long off season wait is nearly over.
2018 opening race meeting of the year a month away to the day, at the same venue where the pics above were taken. Sea level, so it feels as if the engine has an extra hundred horses. Have been racing at high altitude - 5500 feet, but this year will do the local provincial series - Retro Racing KZN.
Car is ready, with major changes to suspension set up.
My new cross flow engine is not yet complete, so it's old faithful that will have to stand me in stead.
Really looking forward to being on the black stuff again.

    Regards,
    Arthur.

My R8 Rally car from the 80's with a "Bull Bar" It was really only there to carry the Super Oscars. It was later changed to the nudge bar.

ROFL. I've just this dim memory of one or two white, restored R8s in Perth in the 1990s, and red, cloth upholstery rings a bell.... Might send the image around the Register I think.
