    Default R8G import

I thought I might document the import of my 8G from Zimbabwe to Perth. Pics below are cleaning for Aqis and spares coming over too.
Geckeng, dad says the Dauphine air site intakes are a present for you :-)

    It looks beautiful!

Would have been a cracking car to drive about the place, before things started unravelling nationally.

These are the spares that are not coming in my dad's workshop. I'm not sure that anyone in the world has more spares than him for 8,10,12, 4cv, Dauphine, or Caravelle!

In the second photo, middle shelf - the cylinder head - has it been ported, or are the inlet tracts normally separated by a feather-thickness wall?

8Gs are now getting quite common, they make things like 8 1100s seem rare!

Ironic that you talk of rare... This is actually an 1134 with a replaced front panel. The original panel is coming to Perth too..

    Hi Julian,
Great to hear from you in Zim.

Thinking of it and seeing the picture, 2 or 3 sets of callipers as spares would not go amiss. Ensure the later type with the 9mm bolt holding the piston in.

Tell your Dad, thanks for the present from Zim.

Not as rare as R1130 models!! Yes, there are more R8Gs in Perth now than R8 "non-Gs" as far as I know.

Great to see another R8 coming our way. Hope the whole process goes well and that we see you and your car ere long. I'm presuming it hasn't arrived yet.

Really good idea re calipers Ray! What about cylinder heads too?

As Simon said, "normal" R8s are the rare ones at present.

    Cheers

My normal 8-port head looks like that. Surprisingly thin, although I'm not saying that in the photo wasn't a ported one.

Hey John. That's nice to know. Makes my R8 R1130 even more precious to me, even if Sally gets the looks driving the Caravelle !!! Sorry you missed Forbes this year, it way fabulous.

    Julians,
Before submitting your car for licence inspection, remove the number plates, [you may like them as souvenirs].
I was told it is not a requirement even though there may be some insistence by the traffic wallahs who, more than likely sell them to plate collectors.

I recall Volvos that had been brought into the country, we would remove the plates before traffic inspection. The owners appreciated this.

Thanks, I certainly want them as souvenirs. I'm even considering getting the same number as a custom plate here in Aus.I'll see what's available

A few dents, scuffs and scratches, but the 24 year old paint is due to be redone anyway

Wow. Yet another. I've said it before, but there are more R8 Gordinis here than R8s now. Who'd have expected that?
