    Default R10 Question on Carbies

Would a R10S twin Webber caby and manifold, fit on standard R10?
    Thanks for your input,

You mean a twin throat 10S weber?
yes, it will fit. I used to run one. Arguably the best performance would be gained with a better cam though.
A lot of people used to fit that carb on an 8 port early R8 head to the R10 block back in the day.

Just to be clear. The manifold won't fit a standard R10 head. It is for an 8 port head where as the R10 head has 6 ports. Early R8's and Floride S and R10S had 8 port heads.

I have successfully used an inlet manifold off a 8 port head on a 6 port head with no problems. What you need to be aware of is the different thickness of the flange. In some cases, you may need to reduce the thickness (only where the nuts go on) to enable the nuts to pull up both manifolds securely against the head.

The inlet ports on 8 port and 6 port heads are in the same position. It's just that on the 8 port there is a bit of aluminium separating each pair of ports. Even the gaskets are interchangeable .

Which always leads to the question: why did they do it? Start with 8-port, revert to 6-port and then offer 8-port for the performance model, that is. Why the 6-port??? Cheaper to make perhaps?

Anyway, the thread's question has been answered. I should dig out that 956 8-port head that is wrapped up carefully in the garage.... They'd be getting rare now.
