    Default Scenic water pump

    Hi Froggers:
Do you have to take the timing belt off to replace the water pump on a 2001 2litre Scenic Manual 2wd?
    Thanks

My waterpump is also up for replacement.
Just had the timing belt done and asked for the water pump to be done.
The mechanic said the waterpump on these motors run on the accessories belt so don't have to be done with the cam belt if you don't want to.
Apparently some (or all) later versions of the F4R have the water pump driven off the timing belt but I haven't actually seen any later types.

    Cheers

Mine is 2003 build Scenic I with 2.0 ltr F4R engine.
Water pump is driven off accessories belt.
Timing belt does not need to be disturbed. Just misses out in these photos, but I seem to remember the topmost bolt in the water pump was partially covered by part of the timing belt cover - or something like that. Meaning you may have to loosen/move the plastic timing belt cover, but not the belt itself. Sorry, can't quite remember that part of it.

    Pictures may be helpful:

    1. In situ, note build up from water pump seal leak, prior to removal of accessory belt.
    2. Water pump removed - this had done about 60000kms and 7 years old.
    3. Note remnants of black gasket indicate water pump location, cant see topmost location area. You can see the timing belt is still fitted, though the harmonic balancer and timing belt cover are removed.
