That looks pretty special, doesn't it. Worth a lot more than the current bid of $1650. Still under-rated cars, aren't they? It looks orginal not restored too.

    Lovely - thanks for posting.

Fantastic! You can just tell that's a one owner car where the owner loved his R12. I bet he or she either passed on or is too aged to drive.

    Yes John, underrated.

    Due to the painted hubcaps?

    Oh, God!

The pictures are too crap to tell whether the caps are painted or not, but I remember those caps came in a silver (or grey) colour too so they may just be as original as the rest of the car.

It looks from the pictures, like the whole rear quarter on the right side, has been repainted. It may also be that the rear door on that side was painted and the quarter original - but there is a slight mismatch in the two and they are painted together in the factory.

Funny, I was looking at the left hand rear - the photo looks to me as if the reflections are a bit irregular. It's been straightened and painted above the wheel arch I reckon.

Neither really detract much on their own from what looks a pretty special R12, unless any damage has been repaired badly.

As a R12 GL owner I am glad there is bidding activity on this car. It looks great and deserves a new home.
I paid $1500 for mine over a year ago and it doesn't look that good but I have had a lot of fun tinkering with it since.

I hope they are happy with the price they get for it and it goes to a good home.

It's so nice to see such a lovely example of what I had for many years . Exactly the same paint/trim combo but mine was nowhere near that good, plus it was auto (I changed to manual) and fitted Dunlop mags amongst other things.

Dang if I can see anything, guys. I guess the potential buyer now has some questions to ask and we may find out in the future if he hangs around here.

Impossible to find a 5 year old car that hasn't seen the inside of a panel shop let alone a 36 year old. I wondered about the Virage badge up on the rear quarter above the vent because I've seen them rust there.

The rims have been painted that's why it looks funny, the originals are a darker grey.

Still a pretty special car for the age and the money.

There is a bubble of rust on the RHR wheel arch near the door so it might have had a repair. I'd love to have a look but I'm afraid it might result in a purchase...and a divorce....

I was part of that bidding war ... I jumped out at 2600, if it was in Syd would have gone to 3000. Would have made a nice club car. But it would have left me no room for a 17 .... An that's more important.

The story goes from the seller, he bought it off a little old lady who lived around the corner from his mum an dads. He fixes up cars and sells them so he bought it. It's had some repaires and still needs some more. Hope the new owner brings it back to its former glory.

I helped my mate collect the Virage today. Tried to persuade him the colour matches my shed doors, so he could leave it with me! No luck. With his permission I am trying to add extra photos as a cautionary tale about selective advertising photos giving less than an accurate indication of true condition: and that is before we start on anything mechanical.

Nevertheless, he is confident (as am I) that he will get his $2.8K worth of enjoyment from it.

    Cheers
    Keith

There will almost certainly be rust in the mud guard near the front door pillar. Mud gets thrown up in there and is a perfect rust environment.

A very pretty design - timeless. All it needs is a 5 speed gearbox. Doesn't need air-conditioning, central locking, EGR valve, particulate filter or even warning signs that the rear passengers have not locked in their seat belts. It can be forgiven for achieving only 33 mpg average. Modern cars have excellent fuel consumption but you pay everywhere else big time.

wow, they really pulled the wool over everyone's eyes with the ebay ad. Could your friend not have rejected it over false advertising? I think most of us have been there once or twice before. What's wrong mechanically?

Its not as good as I was expecting. The rust will be be more extensive than just the bubbles we can see.

I hope its mechanically good so your friend only has body work to do.
