Default Noise from rear of Koleos...

    Hi All,
a quick question re a clunking noise coming from the rear of the vehicle, generally only once after starting off, and only on the first deceleration of the vehicle. I never hear it again until after parking.
Weird, but I can guarantee it happens every time. Only on the first significant deceleration with no brakes; this is a diesel model so in this case the engine pulls it up quite a bit.
She's got 158000 on the clock, which may matter for this query as well.....no other problems ever....
I'm just looking for ideas before I take it to my local mechanic.
Something to do with the electric park brake maybe?

    Cheers

Has it just started or always been there? Maybe ABS system and it might be normal.

It's not something loose and "floating around" in the back or in the wheel well (?)

Hi mate, nope, just started doing it. Maybe 3-4 weeks ago. No incident marking its commencement. Just same-ol same-ol in terms of driving.

    Cheers

Had the same issue (with another brand of vehicle) no event could be traced to the start of the noise.

It ended up the spare wheel hold down bracket had vibrated off and was in the wheel well.

    Do you have electric park-brake?
    Can you hear it release?
This noise before or after brake release?

And, do you hear the noise if you release the auto brake manually prior to moving off?

Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone............

Hi, thanks . The brake releases, I mostly release it manually, so it's after the release...

Rear wheel drive-shaft universal? Try chocking the vehicle and jacking each side up (separately) at the rear end . Release the hand brake with the gearbox in park (or first gear for a manual) and attempt to rock the rear wheel. Listen for clunks. Could also be a main drive-shaft universal joint.

    Hi
I have exactly the same problem with the clunking coming from the rear. Most noticeable when first starting out. It happens in the same spot every time as I slow to turn a corner. My car has done about 144000 km.
Have you taken your car to have it checked out?
    Cheers
