    No, but I used to carry a 12" x 3/8" Tent peg and a mash hammer to encourage the original French ones into starting.
    Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone............

    I have found over the years that starter motors generally don't respond all that well to percussive maintenance.

    R1150 = 7702 050 759

    r1151/1152/1153/1154 = 7702 050 760

    Thanks Simon.
    I took all the information and a dead starter motor to CAE Enterprises in Castlemaine.
    They reckon that they can custom make me a brand new one for $ 550 plus freight.

    Just make sure that the external dimensions are no larger than the Australian Bosch types, some of the "repro" starters can be larger than the original item. The Aussie Bosch (generally larger in girth and length than the Paris Rhone and Ducellier) is already a tight fit in some applications, also make sure things like the solenoid won't foul on anything if they are in a different location.

    Can't an auto electrician rebuild the old one cheaper than $550 or am I living in the past? I just had a Bosch alternator bearings and brushes rebuilt for $150 and a Paris Rhone with all new diodes and bearings and brushes for $250. Bought a brand new small Lucas for $175. I live in a small country town with only one auto electrician so no competition. Surely the Bosch starter had pretty standard armature and I know the brushes and bearings were common.

    Bosch changed the profile of the solenoid so a reconditioned Bosch won't fit in an Alpine a310/4 any more.
    The starter motor in question is also a reduction gear starter of 1.9 hp.
    It is also brand new, not reconditioned.
    I got sick of replacing starter motors every few months seeing as i couldn't get a reconditioned one that would fit,
    plus i would have spent far more than that already on crappy second hand ones.

    I have found starters on my modified 16 TS motors with extractors having problems after running at the track particularly. After making a heat shield these problems stopped. I now just have the 16 starter in my 16TS powered 4CV wrapped in some sort fibreglass heat wrap tape, with all being well so far.

    I also had it wrapped in a fibreglass heat tape that's used in commercial boilers, this tape is claimed to be good for up to 2000 degrees. The terminal that the wire from the ignition switch goes on snapped off this time. The starter currently in the car is
    made from the parts of three starters cannibalised to make one that works.
    I think that the main problem is even with a reco starter is that you are still using a starter that the main parts are over 40 years old.
