    Default Renault special tools

Does anyone have a listing of all the renault special tools; the numbers and what they actually are used for?

I know each model has a reference at the back of the factory manual with diagram and number but no reference to what it is. I was wondering if there is an overall summary available?

There are various early MR technical bulletins detailing tools and uses, and then the later MR 500 tome.

I guess I was hoping someone may have a document they could scan and post here for the benefit of others if there was ever a dealer summary of them or similar.

Yes, exactly like that; BUT for the older Renaults (Dauphine, R8, R10, 12, 16 etc) that use the MOT designation for special tools.

That's the (tiny) problem. The documents are only issued for the current range, when models become obsolete new documentation is issued, and the tools for the old models drop out of the catalogue. Then there are the revisions to tools, where only the new tool is listed with new tool numbers.

I'll find a best fit catalogue to suit the Dauphine - 16 era, send through your address and I'll post out a copy.

Just for the sake of completeness, attached are pics of the various tooling documents from the 1960's to the 1980's, they are all complementary to each other as the models evolved through the period.

So MR 109 covers the 1960's models, superseded by MR 009 that covers the later 1960's models through early 1970's, with supersessions over time to the internal notes, then the same with the MR 500 which superseded the MR 009. All the folders are circa 25-30mm thick. Renault workshop documentation is quite chaotic......

hi guys remembering my days at Renault Australia back in the early seventies that a lot of our special tools were marked Facom brand,
I just googled facom Renault tools and found an ended ad on ebay, someone in mt.gambier?advertising a large range of r12 special tools with no bids taken, probably worth following up for any keen r12 owner . regards jim

They do appear on ebay from time to time - I got a Dauphine/4CV/R8/R10 hub puller a few years back. Just keep scanning...

There were Renault dealers in Mount Gambier - Laurie Fox then Hopgoods - in the 1950s-1970s, so a stash of tools is quite possible.

There's one on ebay in US now by the look of it. Not sure exactly which model(s) but it has plenty of holes.

Hopgoods Garage had a full clearing sale back in 1990. Most of the Renault bits going off at the sale, I scored a few odds and ends, but a lot of the tools went quite high so perhaps that buyer is now selling them off again. The big mover at that particular sale though was P76 V8 engine bits and pieces. Even though a lot of the parts were marked as warranty returns, they still pulled a surprising amount of interest in both bidder interest and prices!

There was a rumour of a shed full of R8 and parts etc, from Laurie Fox. I never have managed to chase his sons down (Yamaha dealership or something like that).

hi johnw pretty sure it is a r8/r10 caster angle setting tool.if I remember back 40 years we used them at Renault aust (punt rd. Richmond)toset r10 castor/camber angle, adjustment by concentric mount bolt in lower control arm.the gauge/tool sits against front brake disc and you rotate it around until one of the square blocks sitting out at 90 degrees touches on end of tie rod end bolt.the photo shows it upside down to how it is used.can,t quite remember the procedure how to set up the bubble gauge though.would be worth its weight to any one setting up an r10/8/caravelle regards jim

hi again johnw remembered how to set bubble gauge, you have to hold tool with flattest section(section that it is sitting on in photo) up against the flat centre between lower control arms of front cross member, set the bubble gauge to centre position, move tool to front disc rotor and sit flat against rotor matching into radiused section of tool.rotate disc with tool held onto it until 90 degree anvil touches tie rod end bolt extension then read bubble position, and adjust concentric bolt in lower control arm to get bubble in gauge to centre position as set on front cross member.sounds confusing but once used a couple of times is very simple way to set camber/castor prior to toe in regards jim

    Hi Col,

Thanks for letting me/us know. Ah well, between our efforts, at least the seller got a fair price!

I'll be interested to hear how you get on with it. You'd better bring it to a Muster one year and share it with the rest of us.

    Cheers

I was expecting a bidding war towards the end of the auction

When it arrives I will try it out on the Alpine and take some pics.

I received the wheel alignment tool last week.

I tried it out on the Alpine a few days ago, I'm assuming it clips onto the backing plate and also rest against the brake rotor and the curved wing at the top rest up against the steering arm.

The alignment tool doesn't seem to hang there on its own so I will do a little more research into its use.

Icon5 Post up pictures of inherited Renualt tools!

Perhaps this thread could be useful for posting up some of the odd tools that Renault accumulators seem to attract, might eventually find a better home where they can be used.(or copied)

I know I have made up a few handy helpers for the Fuego.

    Regards

    Ken
