Default Renault 19 - Heater Fan won't turn off

Hope someone can help with this problem ... the heater fan suddenly came on, without request! Doesn't matter what I do to the heater fan knob, it just stays on full blast. If I turn off the ignition, it will come on again as soon as the ignition is turned back on. Thanks in advance. Pieter

I would think that it would be the heater fan control that is faulty.

Agreed. You'll find it located under the bonnet behind the coil. You'll need to remove the coil and the plate it bolts too

Could also be a faulty rotary switch inside the cabin. Unfortunately they only come as an assembly (3). Is it a 1.7 or a 1.8 R19?
Ours is a 1.8 and the heater fan is manky as well. With the fan switched on it sometimes works and then stops for a while and then comes on again. Will have to make time to check it out soon.

Thanks for that JoBo. I will try that first in the vain hope that easiest comes first HA! The switch did play up once or twice but thought that just another endearing Renault characteristic! Fortunately I have a spare R19 I use for spare parts so easy to check out. Mine is a 1.7. Thanks again

When my 19 was alive (has only gone off the road 6 mths ago), at one stage the fan was either on or off. Unfortunately the only way it came on (at full blast) was when I switched the headlights on! Neat French party trick! After a while it went kaput and the auto electrician replaced a relay. Shame it was only two weeks prior to her demise.

All my cars fans are like that too.
