    Hello there,

I'm looking at buying another car and i saw this Megane advertised on Ebay. Just wanting to know if its worth getting.

I realize it needs work, but is it worth fixing?

Sure is, but the first thing to do before forking out your hard earned would be to ascertain when the timing belt and ancilliary pulleys were last changed. If it was more than four years ago it could be ready for a $1000 replacement or $3500 engine rebuild when it lets go. Don't know much about the auto but the rest of the car is pretty much basic. My wife has a manual version which I very much like driving as it doesn't seem to have a red-line and just keeps winding up past 7000 rpm.....

It looks as though the owner is looking for very little money for it - so if you could get it for somewhere below the $1000 mark, and are prepared to do the work to fix it I reckon it would be a good buy.

We have a manual Megane in the family and I love driving it!

I was interested in that so I asked the question. The timing belt was done as 110000 kms it's now got 187000 so it's due in 3 thousand. Although she didn't tell me when it was done could be over 4 years, but can't say for sure. So it is due soon.

Thanks everyone. I think we will give it a miss. We are happy to spend fixing up a few things but not over board.

The belt and pulley fix is basically insurance, something that would make the car a real joy for you to have and drive. Anyone asks my Misses how she likes her soft-top she will always tell them; "It's Grouse". Perhaps you should reconsider, or talk to my wife!
