Default Renault 750 - Vic Reg RD 066

Just on the off chance a miracle might occur I thought I'd put it out there.

Anyone know of this car, past or present?

It was my dad's car and parents honeymoon car.

My 4CV was originally dark green too but studying your photo a bit more closely I can see their 4CV was even earlier than mine, looking at the sliding front windows in the pic (mine has wind up front windows). Sorry, no closer
    cheers,

    John

May have been at some point, but not my family. Would have been around Coburg and Kensington 58-61, then out to Doncaster/Box Hill from about 61-63.

Thanks for your interest guy's wasn't expecting anything so quick.

John W might be best to answer this, but my guess is 1950. It doesn't appear early enough to be 1948 as it doesn't seem to have the flatter roof profile of the first ones.
    cheers,

    John

Yep, I'm sticking with 1950. It doesn't have the previous version number plate panel either and the roof profile is definitely second generation. It would be just before John W's 4CV I reckon.
    cheers,

    John

Worth a try!! We used our 750 as a honeymoon car too! Anyway, that is a 760, or R1060, roughly pre-1951 although some may have been sold a bit later. It is the early type with teh sliding windows and some flimsy engineering here and there that was fixed in late-1950 to 1951 when the R1062 ("750" in Australia and UK) was introduced with windup front windows as a diagnostic difference.

Hope it comes up - there are a few of those early ones around, and the odd one being restored at present. I can safely assume you don't have the oval plate number

    Best of luck.

It is almost identical to mine, which is an early R1062 of 1951 with windup front windows. The roof line is hard to pick but I suspect it is the flatter type, of the R1060. The side-on photo seems to show the big number plate fitting, which wasn't used on the early R1060 models AFAIK, as they had a wide, flush fitting rear lamp arrangement instead. So, looking at the upper case sanserif "RENAULT" badge on the bonnet, exactly like mine, I'd guess about 1950 too. Let's see if Bob Gray reads this and gives his thoughts.

Pity we can't quite distinguish the size of the brake flange rivets...

With parents like that, you didn't have a chance not to be a "Renault" person. I can think of a few children (now well and truly adults) of the 4CV Register folk in much the same situation, including our 35-year old daughter!

    Lovely photos. The year?

10 years to early for me I'm afraid. Is it possible in a 760 anyway?

No oval plate numbers I'm afraid. I didn't even notice the front sliding windows nor ever knew they had them early one's. Interesting. Do you know how many 1950, or early 1060's are surviving in Oz, John?

Yep that's how it happened. Plus what seemed like an endless stream of 16's, 12's and 504's coming and going in the driveway during the 80's. Auntie had a 750 as well.

The Vic RD 066 rego dates from 1950 as well, being in the sequence from OX 500 to TG 500. Any chance of old rego papers with an engine/chassis number to reconcile with a currenr car?

Thanks Simon. I didn't know you had that sort of information!

Can you date SA registrations too? 308-644 was my original rego on the 4CV I think.

    Cheers

Regarding 1060 survivors, Bob Gray will know. I'll email him in case he doesn't see this. I'd guess about half a dozen.

As an original issue plate, it dates to 1951. However things can get fuzzy in SA as from 1958 there were also re-issued plates, where old numbers were revived, until superseded by the R-prefix alpha numeric plates.

Thanks Simon. It is a 1951 car, purchased by me in 1966, so I'd suspect it was original then. Much obliged.

I would agree with 1950 for RD-066 as it appears to have a large vertical plate holder and this would mean it has tail-lights out near the guards. It is probably early 1950 as the front over-riders are further apart. They were moved closer together later in 1950.

We have 7 R1060's listed with the 4CV Register. There is one late 1948 car, 2 1949 cars and 4 1950 cars. We also have some details about another 7 R1060's but most of these probably only exist now as spare parts and photos.
