Default For the 4CV fans ...

Ok, due to popular demand (from me at least) and due to overwhelming encouragement from the Master, here is the much anticipated and often dreamt about 4CV thread. So place photos of your current or previous 4CV's here, stories and information on these great little cars and your favourite photos of 4CV's found on the net or from shows etc.

I'll start with these of a really early example of one from who knows where ...

    Hi,

My very own 4CV built in 1972/73 and rebuilt in 1974/75 after the rear was badly burnt when the fuel tank caught fire. It was very quick and could lift the front wheels matchbox height. (so I was told by spectators). Best dice was when I beat a 3l Ford Capri with me and my girlfriend (now wife) on board. Quicker than a Mini Marcos that belonged to a qualified journey man when I was apprentice. Broke many clutch plates until I realised not to crash change from 1st to 2nd.

Sierra 1100 motor with twin side draught Webers on a manifold that I built at the apprentice training center. Cam shaft was IR8A B3. Very wild but at the time I didn't know anything about degrees or lift.

    Regards
    Frans.

Good idea and might encourage us not to accidentally highjack other threads... As we do from time to time.

Always nice to see more photos.

Let's encourage people to join the Renault 4CV Register of Australia too. We cater for all rear-engine models. Google the name to get to the web page.

Here are a few of mine. Pale blue and extremely tired in 1966 through to the 2013 French Car Festival in Perth last year and her engine bay the other day. The car has never been restored, just maintained. And I guess we've done about 100,000 km in her.

    Cheers

Need to add my few that I have been connected with over the years.

My "Baby" with Boss Stripes. Was my transport throughout my airforce training, and a few years while I finished my apprentership. Had a Dauphine 850 and R10 fromt suspension, and a glass bucket for the driver, and standard interior the rest. Was bought by Brian Evans and built for racing, 1475 R5 motor, R10 box and upgraded suspension. Very fast and competitive car.

    For the 4CV fans ...-baby.jpgFor the 4CV fans ...-rhodesian-race-renault-2.jpg

Red 4CV was a friend in the Pretoria Renault Club, with 1300 G and 5 speed, R10 front and cross member. Very nice car, Was very fast street racer, but also did many long runs.

    For the 4CV fans ...-pretoria-4cv-g.jpg

One that I camped with, the qualifying weekend at LeMans. Ran an 1108 on a Dauphine box. Everything else was original. Came from Diepe.

    For the 4CV fans ...-imag0001.jpg

The Yellow Beast, is Lukas's car from Port Elizabeth, Cape, ZA. Runs a 1800 16TS and big 4 speed. R10 front end and cross member. Big brakes all round. Very nice interior. Car is extremely fast for a streetcar, beating the factory 2Lt Golf GpN cars on the track, and giving the factory BMW 2.7Lt cars a good run for their money.

Before I was old enough for school, Dad used to drop me off to a relatives on his way to work in his Dauphine. I don't know what happened to it but he bought a 64 Datsun 1200 duel cab ute & parked the Dauphine down the back under a tree so I used to spend time in the Dauph pretending to drive it. All good till he took it to the dump. I was devastated and Dad realised how much I loved it, perhaps cause I wouldn't shut up about it for years after.
His answer to this was an early 4CV that he picked up for $70 from Mid City Motor Auctions and drove it home and hid it in the shed till I got home from school. That night he took me out to the shed to show me something. As soon as he opened the side door, I spotted the instantly familiar shiny black spider wheel & gleaming hub cap on a canary yellow 4CV. Couldn't believe it, I was the happiest (and spoilt) 9 year old in the world.

This is me and the 4CV in 1977 ...

and this is the same car when I bought back off the guy who bought it off me in 1980. He had it for about 26 years before selling it back to me with R10 front and rear suspension, brakes and set up for 16TS power. I sold it again a couple of years ago

A nice thread; long may it continue. I do like the yellow beast & the -ve camber on Frans's beastie (& I thought the 3. something degrees on mine was about as far as a road car could sensibly go).

cheers! Peter (had 3 4CVs- first one in '65, last one from Jan '68 to present)

Where is Kermit now that Colin has sold it yet again?
(I had a nice chat with the sometime Sydney owner one day when he visited the museum here; it was delivered back to Colin via a series of Tassie "B" & "C" roads as a farewell blat.)

Our beloved 4cv took a shot in a hit and run accident in traffic. I haven't seen the damage yet but reports are that it is probably repairable. The car still drives but isn't very pretty.

This was a great restoration in the U.K. but I'm struggling to find the link to it. I might add it later but here are just a few of the pics showing what it started from and the transformation that followed ...

That red one is a beauty, but with the colour and the finish should be a modified.

I must confess Ray, I'm a fan of the high shine "wet look" even though it's not the correct finish as they didn't come out that way. The Legros is a beauty isn't it !

Here's another shiny one but this ones modified. I appreciate mint stockies but love the hotties too. If I could I'd have a stock and hot version of each rear engine model

Nice - haven't come across that one before. Looks like it might even have some structural rigidity but I think I'd want a roll-over hoop.
