That's ok Steve. It was good to read about Kermit as I wondered where he went. Sounds like you've done some great work on Kermit. Here's a shot of the two of them on display at Greenock's Tour Down Under French Village day, I think Jan 2014.

Surely a photoshop vehicle. Not sure how the door would open appearing to be reversed and that guard appears to be part of it.

shouldn't that read "three wombats" ??

so sorry if I offended any cyclists - I'm just sayin'...

now for a little sadness for this magic thread - I was 16 when I bought my first car, a 4CV - paid $30 for it - don't know where the bad boy got it from but when I said there should be some paperwork involved in the transaction he scribble
I GOT THA DOOGH - which I assume meant that he got the money - 'twas a little hard to drive because he said there was supposed to be a switch in the gearbox that was connected to the gear lever but it was 'broke' so I had to flick a switch on the dash when I wanted to change gears, do the change, then flick the switch again

I joined the Army at 17, and while I was away, my dear old Dad saw it as the perfect opportunity to remove that 'piece of junk' from under the house - bugger! Don't even know where it went, he said he gave it away...

Now at age 66 I am the proud owner of a lovely Trak Yellow 16TS (twill be on the road soon, I promise) and a nice R10 (given away to a good home with the promise of restoration by me) that will be swarmed over at Sunroofs' R8/10 Workshop Day, hopefully in the not too distant future...

I wonder what the story is with this one? It's significantly pumped out wider. I don't think too much is left unmodified. I'm thinking the Renault power is gone with the lack of cooling intakes. Maybe VW running gear
    cheers,

...not too sure I like the garage door, it would let the snakes and cane toads in. Must be in Ireland.

The door hinges must be in the guard. They would need to be fairly substantial.

I rather like both wombats & cyclists. I have raised one of each (orphaned wombat & biologically related daughter).

    cheers! Peter

In years past they would have been balanced "on the car" and I suppose they still are. Someone must still have the equipment!

Even when I was an apprentice in the mid eighties, the on-car balancing machine was only ever used to spin up a wheel if someone was unsure of a noisy wheel bearing. It wasn't long before it wasn't used for anything at all. At the end of the day, if you need to use that method to diagnose a wheel bearing there's something wrong with your technical/diagnostic abilities.
We are talking a Ford dealership though, so some workshops probably continued using the equipment for years later, maybe.

I can assure you that almost every workshop in the sixties used that equipment to balance wheels and tyres, not locate noisy wheel bearings! I don't think I ever had an "off vehicle" tyre balance until the late seventies or early eighties.........and how would you balance a spider rim and tyre?

Using an on-car wheel balancer of course

Sadly there was no sign of spider wheels in the Ford dealership I worked in in the eighties (hardly surprising) hence the machine became buried in dust. It used to smell like someone was doing a burnout when some of the guys used it.
    cheers,

    John

Based on a recent visit, Ireland's too wet for a door like that. It would let the mist in too!

I get mine static balanced at our local tyre place (Richard's Tyrepower on Scarborough Beach Road in Perth, Glendalough I think). They can fit a front wheel on the machine if you knock out the wheel bearing outer cones. Huge improvement, just balancing the rims.
