The black car behind the 750 is an Austin A70 Hampshire.

Ah, well done Simon. I realised afterwards that adding a question in the for sale section was a bit silly

Lozenge suspected an A40 - close, but not quite Lozenge. Good try though ...
    cheers,

    John

The quick reference was the Austin of England badge, on the A40 Devon, the badge is located on the bonnet.

I learnt to drive in an A70 Hampshire. They were a good old thing , a step up from the A40 Devon. The sweeping guards and the close together headlights reminiscent of a poor mans Jag!

Ah Simon, again your encyclopaedic knowledge! Now for the next, difference between a Devon and Somerset (Summersault), Hampshire and Hereford?

The A40 Somerset is the fat and bloated descendent of the A40 Devon, the Somerset being followed by the slimmer A50 Cambridge, then the A55 Cambridge, then Australia got an A60 Cambridge, whilst the UK had to hang onto its A55 for a bit longer.

The A70 Hereford is the fat and bloated descendent of the A70 Hampshire, followed by the A90/A95/A105/A110 Westminsters.

VERY poor man's Jag...... My old Latvian friend described them best for my money as "hot boxes". I didn't understand until, after many years of rear-engine cars, we bought one with the heat at the front!!

Simon, your detailed knowledge always amazes. But I do worry about your knowing all that Austin stuff. We'll be talking about Rover P3s next.

The 4CV looked a bit sad.

Funnily enough, I saw a nice one of those on the road last weekend. About the first I had seen, since one appeared in an advert for a Valiant Charger.
