Default Laguna 1 V6 heavier steering when engine warms

    Hello,

Need some help on my 94 Lag V6 beast. The past couple of weeks I've noticed my steering going heavy once the engine warms up. Heavy as in the weight you'd expect the power assist to be when going highway speeds. So about twice. You can still live with it but the ride of the whole car seems to be off also. The car has been recently serviced and told the mechanic to have a look and he saw no problem. I'm worried the whole system may fail and it will become dangerous.

No squeaking belts, low fluids etc. Just when the engine warms up the steering becomes heavy and vague. Oh yeah the service light also came on when the problem appeared. I have not run a diagnostic on it yet as it's hard to get to my normal 'france' mechanic.

    Any ideas??

    Hi,
Sounds like the Harmonic balancer is delaminating and slipping, causing the drive to your power steering pump to become unreliable.
The service light probably detected a lack of charge from the alternator, due to said slippage. Dont let it go too far or you can wreck your timing belt too. Ouch!!!!!

This is not the problem as the power steer pump is driven from the back cylinder bank cam shaft.

Not sure what the problem is as mine is ok in the steering. It maybe a pump issue, I would take it to a specialist and get it diagnosed properly.

Harmonic balancer hey? Even if that's not the issue I want some anyways. Haha. When it first occurred it was like something suddenly gave way from light to heavy although its as if nothing ever happened when it starts cold in the mornings. Odd
Will have to see what professor says when its plugged in. Hopefully not another steering rack. Already had one replaced.
