Default R10 (square eye) tail lights

Since I'm about to start the body work on my R10S and it's going to end up all shiny the I think the current tail lights may let it down as they are no in fantastic condition. I realise these are hard to come by and am wondering if there are any alternatives out there. I've heard R16 and Mk1 Ford Escort. Since I'm doing panel work changing the rear to suit another light is not out of the question. Most modern tail lights won't look any good and they all seem to wrap around the side anyway. Flush mount like on some street rods also won't look any good IMO, not the ones I've seen anyway.

I have though of casting my own replacements and I'm sure if I make a mold there will be other people interested in some lenses.

Depending on how bad they are you could try some lens paint or coloured clobes pugs

I have set of American ones, which probably wouldn't be of any use sadly. they are all red, that is even the indicators are red, which is typical USA lighting. They are almost like new, I don't think they have been on a car at all.
If you can't find anything at all of use or suitable here, have you considered either Narva or Hella or Britax trailer lights? You might even find a set small enough that are LED based that would be suitable.
    Cheers, hope this helps.

Also a buff with cutting compound and then a good polish. One lot of lens paint I had worked well. Another lot has failed badly, depends on the brand. Paint it inside not externally.

I went with the R16 tail lights because of the fact that finding a good set of R10 lenses was a bit of a mission. The hole just needs to be enlarged a little and they look like a factory fit.
I originally had the ones with the reversing lights, which would have required the addition of reflectors to be mounted else where for it to be street legal, but then I stumbled upon a set of NOS lenses with reflectors in place of where the reverse lights were. I was told that they came from some base model R16 that was never sold here in Oz.
Mind you, this was some 20 years ago and I would imagine that R16 tail lights would be getting a little thin on the ground now too!
    Cheers Renomad

I bought a set of brand new R10 units (lenses and bodies) out of Europe a few years ago so they were still around.
But I suspect the supply is drying up.
