    Default diagnostics for naughty renaults

    Hello brains trust.

Having bought a car manufactured this century (2001 scenic rx4), I find myself without any engine diagnostics and will probably find in time such a device is needed.
I'm hoping it wont be, but bugger me if I'm going to pay someone else a stack of money to do a simple diagnostic so I'm asking if anyone here has any good ideas about what units are good and what units are to be avoided.

I've become accustomed to having real time monitoring of sensors on the 80/90's renaults with the XR25s, and on my fuego with its built in PC, so a basic fault code reader will probably not be what I'm after.

    Any suggestions or advice???

    Jo

Jo, I have a cheap one, bought it off of Simon, who owned a Laguna wagon.
It does read the fault codes and you can look them up on the net afterwards.
I'll search for the packaging over the weekend as it's in one of my carparts boxes.
Our club past president has bought one of the adaptors for his laptop and has a copy of the Clip software, I am not sure which version it is but I can sure find out.
Mine reads the codes of the Scenic and any pre-2003 model Renault. The reason Simon sold it was the later software of the Lag wouldn't give up it's codes. likewise for my son's '03 Clio when he had it.

Something similar to this could be the go.

The better ones, come up at Grays occasionally. Also, back in 2007, one of the fuel injection parts places who sell systems to garages had a used/ex lease one for sale at a very good price.
just a few avenues to chase up.

Best to go the avenue of the laptop adapter and OBDII socket.
I'll talk to my mate with one and find out some details for you.

Question to Jo: Why do you you want to know more about your vehicle than the little coloured lights on the dash tell you? You must be some kind of sadist!
    It's another lovely day! Again!

Not 100% sure-I was only interested in iOS support, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were Android versions and cable versions to connect to Windows PCs.

    Ripper, Dave.

Thats exactly the type of thing I'm after, and at the right price too.

There is nothing wrong with the car now (as far as I know) but when things start to go south I'll come over and borrow it for a spell.

Does clip have things like factory workshop manuals and architectural drawings/exploded body diagrams in its data base or is that an online subscription type of thing??

That looks cool, especially the optional gauges.
I run the iphone in the car already so nothing more to add apart from their hardware.

Are you are running yours on a scenic or similar 01-03 renault???

    G'day Jo,

for dialogys see post number one at Download links for manuals, tech data etc there is a link at the end of the post that is still working. BIG file downloads. You end up with a number of CDs that need installing in accordance with the directions in another file at that link, download them all on that page.

They contain, at very least, the parts manuals for later models. I seem to recall that you can also cross reference part numbers across models. Has those nice exploded diagrams of course.

It's some sort of system for dealers to track vehicle servicing and order bits 'n bobs, I think.

It installed OK here on an ancient laptop without anything untoward happening.....

    cheers,
    Bob
