Interesting to see an airbag (looks like an R19 wheel?) - could be a good mod for safety concious owners of older classics.

Without a doubt thats one of the nicest Fuegos I've seen.

Wheels look sweet, and like how he has done away with the fin stuff that usually runs up the side.

2.2L Turbo, that would haul ass.

    I want it.

...and it's even got a CB radio! woohoo

Still not sure about "doing up" Fuegos, personally I'd prefer to see a stock standard Fuego with just the motor conversion

I agree Europa, especially regarding that awful wood panel stuff hes put on it - blech!

The only mod I would have done besides that stupidly powerful motor would have been wheels and tyres (and brakes - I bet he used the R21 T ABS system) to cope with the speed.

good link Hakkon - The guy seems faithful to renault design themes and the wood strips seem very Velsatis to me, lets hope he plucked more than the motor from the twin turbo Safrane donor car some are AWD. Swap the timber for an air bag or 2 even though if he came unstuck at near top wack a splinter or two would be the least of his worries The under bonet work looks the business and 270 on the track - wow.

Nah i dont quite know how to read French, i just pick up similarities between French and Spanish which i do know how to speak.

Brakes in Spanish is 'Frenos', in French 'Freins'.

Nice car, but quite different to the Fuego's i know, like mistareno's.
The nose looks different and the bonnet to guard grills are missing.
    Health and good fortune always,

    Haakon

I send the URL to my friend Albert in France and today got a reply from him and i don't think that he would mind me posting it here for interest.

Quote [ ken that is a good looking Fuego. It looks like it is registered in Fr. The person did an excellent conversion by fitting that 2 litre R21 Turbo engine, other stuff on the car looks good too like side black mouldings resemble Argentinean Fuego GTA Max, rear spoiler is cool looking.

I could do a similar conversion for one of my Fuego cars as I have access to ..... that has got an R21T for parts (not sure of cost of engine) But for about 300 euros I could get an engine from R21 Txi, that engine is J series and is fitted with 12 valves, power 140hp @ 6000 -(factory build). With this engine I could utilize my Bosch injection, the R21T uses Bendix/Seimens injection, so fitting R21T would require whole harness, comp, coil and so on. Finding wrecked R21T is not easy as most R21 in Fr. are fitted with 2.1 Deisels based on J series blocks ] end quote

Albert went on to comment that in France highways are limited to 130 kph and in that country the cops are active hiding in bushes with hand held radars!! (Here we have police hand held and forward looking mobile radars to contend with , plus private contractors in static disguised camera cars and of course our notorious overhead fixed speed and red light camera traps and maximum speed of 110 kph!)

I will also try to attach Albert's picture of a red GTA Max (Argentina) (Haven't been too successful with adding Jpegs so don't hold your breath!.

    Now that's a nice Fuego!
The dash looks like it's been modifed with the instrument binicle of an R25 or something similiar.
I know my Fuego dash does'nt look like that.
    Cheers Renomad

The dash is out of a very late model Fuego, basically it uses the instruments from the 9/11 instead of the older Fuego dash which was shared with the 18 Series 2.

As for installing an airbag in an older model car, I'm not sure it it would be good or bad. Given the location of the various sensors required, and the differing crushability characteristics of older cars I'd say there could be the potential of the airbag going off in least expected situations, sort of like the Fuego doors unlocking after encountering a sharp bump! Hopefully the owner HAS NOT connected the airbag to the door lock inertia switch. :-)

Were any Fuegos sold in Oz with this late model dash?
    Cheers Renomad

No, that dash was a LHD only thing, 1984 Euro model onwards. Sort of like the 19 Phase 2, where the RHD models kept the old style square dash, not getting the later type, more attractive dash fitted to the LHD cars.

Thank goodness we didn't get them here. Those late LHD dashes are hideous!

    Hang on,

I thought that dash was what all the Fuego turbo's (1.6) came out with from the the factory ....wasnt earlier to do with earlier or later models.....?
