Yes Ray that weber music sure is intoxicating, and I think it would be hard to maintain a drivers license if I owned one of those A110s. My Floride has a twin downdraught weber and the music changes at about 70mph when the second throttle opens.. I just love going for a fang out the road at night but that can be a dangerous occupation in a Floride if one were to crash.

Then again, for aerodynamic, mechanical & dynamic superiority (& aesthetically more to my taste, at least), try Djetting about (& at a lower price).

    cheers! Peter

I am reviving the thread, with some ammunition !!!!!

My son, who is not a Renault fan, as I have never pushed my "brand" on him. He appreciates what all my Renaults have done, but they are not his taste, even the current ones. He is not impressed with the new A110, as he agrees it is not "in the spirit" of the original A110. He saw the rally interpretation of the new car the "Tour de Corse" and agrees this is a direction to the "spirit"

    Calling all the A110 fans...-new-a110-nice.jpg

Now this his his interpretation from almost 20 years ago, for my 50th birthday . Which is of course my Avatar !!

Every product exists as an evolution of a predecessor. Doesn't matter whether it is a fork-lift or a refrigerator. If a product does not improve, it loses it's relevance. I think the new A110 is an excellent evolution of it's predecessors and I'd buy one like that if I could afford one and remain married........!

January 2018 issue Wheels magazine has a very positive article on the new Alpine A110. Index says "Renault rebirths an icon which makes the Cayman look a proper Porker". With an introduction like that you have to read on.

Unfortunately if Renault are going to allow comments that the Nouvelle Alpine is going to make the Porsche Cayman look like a Porker, it should be entered in GT3 or GT4 competition, and see where it comes out. They only run competition in their own one make series, and that tells you nothing.

It is like the SignaTech LMP2 WEC car. It is a Liger chassis (ORECA 2017), a developed by Nissan V6 (was v8) motor. It has a few Alpine tech people on the team, and I forgot it has Alpine Decals on it ?????

The only one that I know of that the car showed its worth in true competition, was the Sport Spider. In 2Lt sports cars it did very well throughout Europe.

    A little cynical..... !!!! (????)

    My worth

Seeing as the original Alpine a110 competed in the WRC and won the inaugural championship, isn't this the platform where the new Alpine A110 should compete.

Sorry Col but as someone who had a rally career in the 70/80's any comparison between then and the " hotrods" at WRC they rally now is totally irrelevant!! They bare no relationship to any road cars, which is sad.Would love a new Alpine as I would yours but different times unfortunately!!

Yes very true, was just using the comparison because that's where Alpine made its name as well as Proto Type racing.

The new A110 is not aimed at motorsport, although it performs well on a track. It's a magnificent handling sports coupe straight out of the box. The chassis won't take a bigger gearbox we've been told (which is the limiting factor), so who's going to race it with 250 bhp?

I would have a new A110 in a heartbeat if I could afford one...but I will have to make do with the RS Focus as my daily. Somebody asked me recently if I was going to sell my A110 to upgrade to the new one....clearly he didn't understand why I have the A110!
If I did have $100K (+ish) to spend on a daily drive car the A110 would top the list... over a BMW M2 (my second choice)...and whilst the Cayman is a nice car, it just doesn't do it for me.
Whilst the new A110 isn't aimed at motorsport per se, it may make a fun tarmac rally car....

You are correct in saying "it may make a fun tarmac rally car....".

    I
understand some 11 deposits have been paid in Oz for the new A110 and that one order was for two - one for Targa Tassie and one for home.
