Default Can anyone work this out?

We have a 2007 Grand Scenic that for the last couple of weeks has been making a grinding noise when turning. So I took it into get it looked at today. Apparently the rear axle has cracked.

Now this car has 50,000 kms, on it, never been "off road" (except for a few dirt car parks) and is generally well treated. We can't work it out, the service people can't work it out and you REALLY don't want to know how much it's going to cost in both time and value. Apparently a replacement axle isn't in the country at the moment.

Suggestions on how it happened (regardless of logic and sense) are welcome.

Very odd. Must simply be random faulty manufacturing.

Hit Renault for a replacement - get the "confusion" of the dealer in writing?

Then start looking for a second hand beam! Maybe compatible with normal
Scenic or Megane2? Rear beam not hard to replace, just time consuming...

Edit - a quick bit of faffing about on google suggests a normal Scenic or Megane2 can donate a bare beam. Plenty of Megane2 in wreckers - its a freak fault I reckon so a low kms s/h unit is the obvious solution here.

No - but I've been following the story with sympathy.

Anyway, thanks to Bryan Byrt Renault contacting Renault Australia, there has been an offer made and accepted of a new axle and installation at a reasonable cost to the poor owners!

best you contact bigkev for that...
Every day when I wake up I reach up in the darkness with my eyes shut and if I cannot feel anything that resembles a wooden lid I know it will be a good day. No lid today.

So would I. I'll have to ask the question when I'm talking to them again.

I'm interested...is Cantberra different to Sydney, 'cause I'm having a heck of a time sourcing Megane2 wrecks in Sydney. Plenty of places advertise, but when you ring they don't have any cars in stock.

    Cheers

That's an assumption I confess, given the number sold...
