    Default Fqp. Clio 02.

    The front quarter panel on these is soooo flimsy. Is it made of plastic?

    quite likely.
    On the laguna2 and Scenics I have had, the front panels (Guards) are plastic (polycarbonate I think). It is designed to absorb minor impacts without significant damage. It used to be a party trick of mine to ask family and friends to knee the front guard. After they had had their feeble soft attempt, I'd give it a proper knee to the side and watch their face in horror then surprise as the guard comes straight back into shape without any damage. Not the bonnet though! just the front guards!

    You should try it. It is somehow therapeutic after all the troubles you have had with yours.

    Yes isn't it good. Light and strong. We hardly sell front guards because being plastic there hard to damage. Most dents just pop back out.
    We have sold them obviously because they can snap and break but the collision would certainly have destroyed a steel guard.

    Plastic (or what ever they are) is certainly the way to go and one thing for sure is that what ever Renault are doing the rest will sure to follow.

    Yeah it usually only takes 20 to 30 years to discover, then they give themselves a big pat on the back for how clever they are for coming up with such a novel idea

    Yep, front guards are plastic, to save weight. On the new Clio IV, the rear hatch is also plastic, also to save weight. Not sure if any other parts are plastic as well. I'm not sure why more manufacturers haven't gone down that path. Front wings surely wouldn't impact that much on crash safety, plus they save weight, and are rust-proof. May cost more???

    Daughter says magnetic "P" plates won't stick on front bonnet or the rear tail gate on her Laguna.

    The yanks made a complete plastic car in the early 80's....nothing can damage it...not even hailstones. I have one in my garage :}

    Wasn't the Renault Rodeo made back in the 60's all plastic?

    It was a light utility vehicle made for the Islands. Being all plastic meant it was hard to damage and didn't rust.

    Seemed a good idea to me, don't know why it didn't take off, May be $?

    Isn't the Espace all fibre glass on a galvanized metal frame. Least they were in 1992 when we saw them being assembled at Diepe. Of course the Alpines are fibre glass also.
