This is a genuine unmolested R4 AFAIK. Not pristine but basically working, straight and all there. We looked for rust on it at the French Car Day and were shown but three small areas. If I had room for it, or were prepared to sell something (i.e. the Citroen CX) I'd have been sore tempted to buy it on the spot.

Well worth consideration by someone who really wants a proper early R4.

Oh goody! It doesn't seem that long ago when R4s were $45-50 cars. At least they got the Australian model year correct as well, it looks like one of the early 1966 cars, just with an earlier dashboard top and missing the dashboard facia cladding.

Go on John, sell the CX, you know that nice white R4 needs to join your Renault family 😉

Hang on a sec, I've been looking for eight months now to find a rear engined Renault over here in WA and this is the first one to come up, OK it's not what I want exactly but atleast it's from the 60's.

    It's mine I tell you.

Good luck then. Mind you, bear in mind that an R4 is a very different vehicle from a Floride, a Caravelle or a Frankenvelle - very French, sweet and practical, but this is not a "drop in an 1100 engine" sort of car.

If you want a real R4 to cherish for what it is, this one is close to perfect. Bound to need some work, perhaps on rear suspension mounts for example, but really as good as I've seen for quite a while.

I would say this is a fail! Not too many "rear engine" R4s!

    Go on, John. Do it!

I had one in the late 60s and you couldn't kill it!

    I was having a laugh.

I like them, but not sure if I like them that much. I'd rather the R10s thats in the for sale section for $350?. If it was only in Perth.

Bring it to the 4CV Muster in Junee next Easter, and let us have a look at it! Must be a similar distance to Perth-Junee.

R4s seem to be "honorary members" of the rear-engined brigade.

    Cheers

Sold for a nice price (to the buyer that is). BTW, did the very, very early R4 not have the third window at the rear? I remember seeing a picture of one years ago.

I just googled WikepediA R4 and they show you the first one without the third window.

It looks like after spending all that money to create a hit parade car, they only had enough money left over to buy a 3 pixel camera. Part of the art of presenting stuff to sell is to take nice clear pics.

Where do you start, all the best bits from the R4 production run on one car. An R1120 with late R1123 seats, no R1120 "momo" hubcaps, late model tailgate, early bonnet, 12V electrics (with alternator), late model 845cc motor, etc etc......

Australia never got the 4-window cheap model R4. Just the luxo six-window versions.
